White Rice: 1 cup of Rice to 1 1/4 cups of water. 2 cups of Rice to 2 cups of water. Brown Rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 1/2 cups of water. 2 cups of Rice to 2 1/2 cups of water. Brown rice absorbs a little more water then white rice does. Be careful of the ratio. cooking long grain rice in a pot is 1 rice to 2 water. but a steamer cooks rice differently. don't forget your base in a steamer is water that is one reason you don't need that much water in the rice Bowl. Like you do in a pot.

Way too much water! Use the same amount of white rice to water and a third of a cup more when using brown rice.

Denise, I have owned Hitachi rice cooker since 1978. I wish they still made them for the USA, To answer your question, the Hitachi measuring cup is not a cup but 3/4 cup. I just measured mine and give or take a few grains of rice, 3/4 cup is the answer. Hope you get this 2 years late.

Lost manual; what is ratio of rice to water? thanks!

All right, this can be a bit confusing. IF you still have the cup that came with your Rice Cooker, use it to measure your rice. Then, inside the cooker there are lines showing how much water to add based on how many of the Zojirushi measuring cups you used of rice. THAT's simple.
IF you DON'T still have your Rice Maker measuring cup you will have to use a 3/4 cup U.S measuring cup. This equals the same amount as the rice cooker cup. For each 3/4 cup of rice you use, add that many cups of water. If you use 3/4 cups of rice twice, then add water to the 2 line.
In other words, a rice cooker measuring cup equals 3/4 cup of regular U.S measuring cups.
Hope I didn't confuse this too much. I hope this helps and if it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution. Good luck and happy cooking!

Lost the measuring cupt for the Cuisinart CRC-800 Stainless Stell 8-cup Rice Cooker. what can I use?

Hi,
A rice cooker is just like a kettle that BOiLS water.
Cooking rice is easy, any Asians do it by simple ways, try this, a cup of rice is for 2 person, put water on it and measure it by means of dipping ur mid finger till it reaches the rice, the level of water must reach the first line of ur mid finger. Ur ready to cook!
Thats all!

Can you boil in a slow cooker?

Generally, with enough heat and good insulation, water will boil. Boiling is caused by non-uniform heating - some spots are hotter.
My wife's slow cooker boils even on the low setting -slowly, but it boils.
Our rice cooker never used to boil until I burned tomato rice in it (OOPs). Don't make tomato rice in a rice cooker.

Rice is mushy, I have cut the water down by one cup and it is still mushy. 2 cups rice 4 cups water down to 3 cups water

If you are using regular rice, it is 1 cup of rice for 2 cups of water. Bring the combo to a hard boil and then reduce the heat to a slow simmer for 20min, stirring ocassionally.
If you are using "Minute Rice", it is 1cup of water to 1cup of rice. Bring the water to a hard boil, turn off the heat and add the rice. Cover for 5min. Fluff with a fork.
