They sell a cleaner that you use in the reservoir. It will go through the system and clean up any build up. Do a search on line or check your manual for the name.
My coffee pot was leaking over the carafe and onto the warmer. I found that this issue was caused by the carafe lid. The lid was not allowing coffee to flow into the pot fast enough. I removed the inner mechanism from the carafe lid (it pops off really easily) and just sit the lid on top of the pot while brewing, and no more leaks! After brewing, I put the mechanism back onto the lid and twist lid onto the pot.
I believe
your problem is the filter basket holder is not seated correctly or the carafe
is not completely inserted in the unit to push the brew pause lever up. The
brew pause feature which stops the coffee from going into the carafe when you
want a cup of coffee before the brew cycle is done. When you remove the carafe
a spring lever stops the coffee from dripping into the carafe. When the carafe
is inserted it must push the spring lever up to allow the coffee to flow into
the carafe. If it is not the coffee will overflow and make a mess. The filter
basket holder should be firmly seated in the unit so it will not have any play
in it. Cuisinart recommends using a vinegar and water mixture but BrewRite
Cleaner (Sodium Carbonate) available in the coffee section at Wallmart, Kamart
and Target is fantastic. You can clean your carafe with BrewRite Cleaner and hot
water by letting it soak a few minutes and rinsing. I will also clean your
filter basket holder by soaking it as well and all your coffee residue will be
gone with no scrubbing.
Make sure you are not using a paper filter and a gold tone filter at the same time. Make sure the carafe lid is down all the way and that the center knob of the carafe lid is making contact with the spring at the bottom of the filter basket. If the above conditions have been met, then decalcify your coffeemaker by running 1/3 carafe worth of vinegar and 2/3 carafe worth of water through your coffeemaker - use the self-clean button to do this - will take about 35 minutes.
The two most common reasons for overflow or underflow have to do with the carafe lid and the filter basket - they key to smooth flow with this coffee maker is making sure the filter basket and carafe lid are making the proper contact with each other so that the center knob on the carafe lid pushes slightly up on the filter basket spring. Make sure the carafe lid is completely closed. Make sure the filter basket is pushed all the way down. Make sure you are not using the gold tone filter and a paper filter at the same time. For some reason, I get better results when the handle of the carafe is resting against the right side wall. If everything is in place, I would suspect a problem with either the filter basket being clogged or some problem with the carafe lid - call Cuisinart as they should be able to order these parts for you.
Your coffee maker likely has the option where you can remove the carafe while it is brewing so that you can serve yourself in the middle of the brew. When you pull out the carafe in the middle of the brew, a small lever closes off the drip at the end of the basket (to keep the coffee from flowing onto the empty space where the carafe was on onto the burner).
Then when you replace the carafe, the lip of the carafe pushes against that lever and re-opens the valve so that the brew can now drip into the replaced carafe. Simple.
In your case, it appears that when you place the carafe onto the burner plate, it is not engaging that lever and opening up the valve; hence the valve stays closed and the brew fills over the basket and makes a mess, right?
So do this, pull out the carafe and look up where the pointed end of the basket drips into the carafe. You should see a lever, or plate that the carafe top lip hits when the carafe is placed into the burner plate. Once you find that lever, or plate, give it a push (like the carafe would) and see if it moves. if it does not, then that's your problem. It is stuck closed and won't allow the brew to exit the basket into the carafe. Clean it thoroughly if it is stuck and then see if works.
My Krups was not working after I accidentally forgot to place the black plastic lid on the coffee carafe BEFORE starting to brew a new batch of coffee. The coffee will not drip into the carafe without the lid
in place. Because the lid is hidden when placed in the coffee maker, it's easy to forget! The coffee all backed up in the filter area and overflowed. The display got wet. Not good.....
If your buttons and or display is not working ( mine got wet with coffee) simply flip the coffee maker over. Unscrew the bottom. expose the display circuit board carefully, DRY it with a HAIR DRYER and put the unit back together! Presto! Mine is working again.
If you need a new circuit board, you can get one for $35 from Appliances.com I found. They also have the Duo filter and extra parts cheaper than the Krups website.
You must have the carafe lid ON. The reason is the lid has a dome on top that pushes up to let the brewed coffee come down. With the pot off look in there with a flashlight....you'll see that the 1 inch dome pushes up on the spring loaded stem.
You MUST have the lid in place or the brewed coffee won't drain into the pot.
