I have a craftman riding mower 2004. I have rebuilt the carb, replaced fuel filter, replaced the belt, and added an additive to try to clean the heads. But still, when I engage the mower blades, the tractor tries to stall. When the blades arent down, the thing runs fine.
Besides the reverse switch, the seat switch will also cause this.
Hi..my name is Keith..and the newer mowers have all kinds of safety switches..and the mowers will shut off..if you put the mower in reverse with the blades on..so i would suspect you have a bad reverse safety switch..i hope this will help..if not please write me back

Yes it does turn freely, 2 new plugs and gas twice since I had to drain it to clean everything out. Think of anything else?
Thanks for the helpeveryone...we were told the jets of the carb were probably still gunked up so we bought Sea Foam additive. Ran a couple of small gas/foam mixes through and it is now starting to work. It's still spitting a lot but I think it's just working it out now.
Does the blade turn freely when the engine is off ? Are you using really "fresh" gasoline ? Have you put in a new spark plug ?
