When I engage the mower blades, the tractor tries to stall

I have a craftman riding mower 2004. I have rebuilt the carb, replaced fuel filter, replaced the belt, and added an additive to try to clean the heads. But still, when I engage the mower blades, the tractor tries to stall. When the blades arent down, the thing runs fine.

Yes it does turn freely, 2 new plugs and gas twice since I had to drain it to clean everything out. Think of anything else?

Thanks for the helpeveryone...we were told the jets of the carb were probably still gunked up so we bought Sea Foam additive. Ran a couple of small gas/foam mixes through and it is now starting to work. It's still spitting a lot but I think it's just working it out now.

Does the blade turn freely when the engine is off ? Are you using really "fresh" gasoline ? Have you put in a new spark plug ?

Besides the reverse switch, the seat switch will also cause this.

Governor,carb problem

Sounds like the linkage spring is not working correctly or was never replaced during rebuild. I would replace that spring as a starting point.

Tractor shuts off when clutch is engaged craftman 22 hp 50" mower

Hello,

I had the same problem. My problem was something was preventing the blades from spinning, so the 1st thing you can do is check to make sure your blades turn, and test this while the mower is off.

While it is a pain, you can also take the deck out and check to see if this help and you are able to freely turn the blades. If everything is working properly, you should be able to turn the blades by hand.

In my case, I has a stick jammed into the belts and pulley, so when I would engage the blade, it would cause my mower to stall when it tried to engage the belt.

Hope this helps.

When you engage the mower the tractor looses power and just creeps along. We have replaced the battery, fuel filter, air filter, and blades. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Fuel mixture is wrong - your carb needs cleaning - specifically the jet.
At idle - it works fine - but under load it bogs down because the demand for fuel is increased... but not delivered.

Thanks!

I have a 2004 Troy Built Poney 17.5 Briggs & Stratton Riding Mower runs for about 3 minutes with blades engaged then is starts to die on me. Sometimes if I dis-engage the deck blades it will keep...

what color is the spark at your sparkplug? If it's red, it's weak,if it's blue it's hot, clean the magneto contacts with sandpaper and wd40 and clean the coil too, let me know how you did!

Mower runs ok until i engage cutting blades then engine starts to cut out and backfire

Could be a few reasons for this..
First try a new spark plug, new gas filter, clean the air filter and check the gas line for cracks or leaks..
If the issue still exists - try spraying some carb cleaner into the intake while it is running in short controlled bursts..
Or the carb might need to be rebuilt.. If it sat for a long time - the gas in the carb will shellac and cause it to not work properly.. Or it could be a bad float in the carb..

Good luck..

Motor backfires

Hi,
It sounds like your engine is firing out of time.
Here is a link to the manual for your engine. It does contain some good info and I hope it will help you to solve this problem.

Mower wants to stall when blades are engaged on a Huskee 13hp 38'' cut Tecumseh engine 6 speed on the go shift

Usually when the motor stalls when blades are engaged on any mower it is the carb that needs cleaned and rebuilt. The motor isn't getting enough gas to handle the load.
