There could be several reasons why the cotton is not being pulled from the bottom to the top. Here are some things you can try:
Check the bobbin: Make sure it is wound properly and inserted correctly in the bobbin case. The thread should be going in a counterclockwise direction.
Check the needle: Ensure that the needle is the correct size for the fabric you are using and is inserted correctly. A dull or bent needle can cause problems with thread tension.
Check the tension: Make sure the top and bottom thread tensions are correctly set. The thread should be able to move freely through the machine without being too loose or too tight.
Check the feed dogs: The feed dogs should be in the up position and moving the fabric smoothly through the machine. If they are not working properly, the fabric may not be moving through the machine correctly.
If none of these solutions work, there may be a mechanical issue with the machine that requires professional attention.
The slightly rounded point of a universal needle is sharp enough to pierce woven cotton fabrics, but not so sharp it will damage knits. It comes in sizes ranging from 60/8 to 120/19-but a reasonable starting point is the 80/12 size.Aug. 28, 2017
best suggestion try inserting new needle. cotton up the top suggests needle problem or incorrect top thread tension, this would effect the feed dog. Because thread is black and most recent use was with pink, the problem thread was already there perhaps in cavity above bobbin but below throat plate. I have had this happen and nothing will move, untill needle released. The bobbin holder tension may also need adjusting after the knots of black cotton are removed.
I am having the same problem !! was sewing fine then it stopped, have changed the cotton, needle, took case out and put back in , checked tension on all settings but still not picking up the cotton . Motor works fine and every thing all seems ok but cannot figure out why its not picking up the thread. All i can think is needle is not going down far enough to make contact but took needle out and lowed it but still nothing. Hope some one can help !!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE
it is possible that the needle & thread are not compatable
here's how to check
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread
Try turning down your top tension setting a bit. If its at 4 or 5, i would turn it down to about 3 ish. Cotton thread is more brittle than polyester and rayon thread.
