Why are Blender blades moving very slowly?

Checking the functions of a Kitchen Aid KSB3 Classic Work 5-speed Top Blender KSB3 to see if working or if its time to pitch it.!? Blender will turn on; Motors whirls as normal as I can remember it- but the blades move very slowly in all speeds Blender is empty, I've check to see that it is assembled correctly and the black coupling on base is not worn. Any ideas if this sounds like a simple fix or a major motor problem. Worth fixing or time to pitch it? thank you.

Since it's a Kitchen Aid unit I'd examine the possibility of repair.

Testimonial: "Thank you. Since the blender is out of warranty. (1996) I am hoping someone can help me rule out a a simple fix before I add electronics to the waste pile. I am guessing a major motor fix would be more expensive than purchasing a new one."

It doesn't SOUND from what you say to be a motor problem. I'd be inclined to look at the drive chain.

Watch this video. If your jar has a lid that screws in rather than pushes in you unfortunately have to purchase a new lid, blade, gasket and collar.

The blades stopped turning in the middle of blending a batch of hummus Its is a Kitchen Aid blender about 10 years old

Does the motor still work if you take the pitcher off of the base? If so, the rod that's in the blade assembly is probably corroded. The blades are connected to a metal rod that passes through a brass tube through to the piece that makes contact with the motor when you put the pitcher on the base. The grease wears down eventually and if you don't pulse and run the motor for a long time at once, the heat can corrode the bar and cause the blade to stop spinning. You can either disassemble the blade unit, or buy a new blade unit online. google blender parts and you can get one for $10

The bobby flay blender leaks out the bottom where the blade is screwed in

Take it apart and pit the gasket on the other side of the cutter assembly.

Depending on the age of your blender, a new blade assembly may be available. I would recommend calling Kitchenaid Customer Service for pricing. Their toll-free telephone number is:

Kitchen Aid blender

to see if its the Triac or just the off button perform this: connect the blender, while pressing the off button press the on button; if the blender stays on and you dont hear the relay function (Light ticky sound) maybe the off button get a broken solder point. But if the relay is functioning and there is no way to change the speed the problen is the TRIAC. This is a small piece on PCB with a heat sink
