Sounds like you formatted your MP3 using windows explorer....in that case you need to reinstall the firmware on the device and once you do that...you should be able to transfer the songs to the device...

Media player wont play files

When you connect the MP3 player to your computer with the supplied USB cable then computer detects the player as an external storage device or a Removable disk, you can then view the folder on your MP3 player. Open the music folder and create a new folder on the player exactly the same way you create a folder on your computer's hard drive. To organise your music, make a folder name with the name of the music album and place the album's MP3 files in this folder, then copy the mp3 files from the computer into this folder.
You will then be able to select the music you want to play by the music album folder. To delete a file from your MP3 player, connect the supplied USB cable to your player and then plug it into the USB port of your computer.
The computer will detect your player then click on this device to view the files, you can then click on the music file to highlight the file and then press the Del key to delete the file off your MP3 player. Check the specification of your MP3 player to determine the type of video file format it uses. Most common video files that MP3 players use are, AVI and WMV, there may be others such as FLV, MOV and DivX. If your player cannot play a video then it is an incompatible video file format, then you need to convert that video file to a format that your MP3 player uses. After video conversion then copy the video files to your MP3 player using the USB cable from your computer. Click on this link for instructions on converting video files for MP3 players :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5874192-play_videos_mp3_player MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

The Sharper Image 2GB Mp3 (1612788) Is Not Copying Music Files

The Sharper image 2gb player will only allow 131 entries in the root directory. Create a new folder, just like on your computer, and then add music files to that folder. I have not tested if there is a file limit in a new folder.

Where does a deleted file go? any chance for recovery?

You are going to have to start again, first connect the unit to your computer copy anything you want to save piccys movies and stuff but not the corrupted music files, Format the drive, then goto http://www.nodevice.com/driver/_PVR-H140/get33981.html download the driver files and re-install to the PVR, then copy all your mp3 files back.........

"MTP DB Mismatch Format?"

The Insignia NS-DA2G needs to be placed in File & Folder mode, and you'll need to have your mac show you all files on the device. Macs will create a smaller file that starts with "._" that contain very little information, but can cause problems with Windows based or Windows preferred devices. These files are not ignored by the PC or certain Windows optomized devices. You should erase these files for the unit to perform normally.

If you are unable to delete these files, you can re-format the device to FAT-32 and that will erase all information on the device. You shouls also hit the reset button (located next to the "HOLD" switch) for about 5-10 seconds to clear the internal settings.

Transferring MP3 files from PC "C" drive "My Music" folder to SD card

you may want to try downloading only those that didn't download the first time. Sometimes when you try to download a large file (all the songs) it causes the "error message" you talk about. You may want to delete files already downloaded, or save the files downloaded to a different file folder, and try the download again.
