I have an Integra DTR 20.3. Recently, I have been getting no sound from the speakers after removing the headphones from the headphone jack. Any ideas?

After unplugging headphones from the headphone jack, no sound is coming through the speakers.

Usually the headphone jack has a contact that's "made" by the 'ring' section of the jack when you push in the plug, which bypasses the speaker circuit (that's what automatically silences the speakers when you plug in the headphones when there are no switches to turn the speakers on/off manually)... if the 'ring' strip got bent somehow so it's pressing against that contact all the time, it won't let the speakers' circuit come out of bypass. Look inside the jack with a flashlight... the sideways Vs that touch the 'ring' sections of the stereo headphone plug should be about in the middle of the opening... if they're pushed over too far it may require disassembly to bend them back to the proper position.

Would this still be the case if the display shows when the headphones are connected and disconnected?

It could be a different auxiliary contact that controls that indicator on the display. Did you look inside the jack with a flashlight?

I did and from what I can tell, it looks okay. Disassembly may be required for verification. when I plug the headphones back in, there is no sound through the headphones. Could this be a function of a bent contact or could there be an internal switch not functioning?

Yes - that symptom could also be due to a/the bent contact. Have you tried powering the unit off and back on completely, by unplugging it for 5 minutes, or so, then plugging it back in?

I left it with no power for 15 minutes with no resolution. I think this problem is beyond my capabilities and willingness to continue the effort. Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

Well, you could try having a local electronics shop replace the headphone jack... I can't imagine why it would cost more than $50 to do so. Of course, that might not be cost effective if you paid only $50 for it in the first place... but if you paid, say, $500 or more, a $50 repair seems perfectly reasonable to get it working again.

    Not a bad idea. Thanks.

I have an acer iconia A500 tablet but get no sound coming from the speakers only when headphones are connected how do I get sound back coming from speakers without using headphones

The headphone jack needs to be replaced. Sound gets switched from speakers to headphone there. When the headphone plug is removed from the tablet the connection inside the jack is lost.

The speakers no long produce sound after using the headphone jack,,disconnected jack , still no sound

When you plug in the headphones, the jack itself routes the signal away from the speakers. When you unplug the headphones, the jack has contacts that close again, routing signal to the speakers. If the jack contacts are dirty, they won't close correctly. I suspect were you to clean the contacts, you'd solve the problem.

I reinstalled my operating system after that my speaker disn't work

Sound is not working. Headphones would work just fine but the built-in speakers stopped working. try to update and reinstall the drivers. The speakers would sometimes work for a second when removed the headphone jack. sometimes it was a short in the jack connection or just a bad connector in the jack. Sooo, just plugg in the headphone jack a bunch of times and after about 20 seconds the speakers will work just fine.

Headphones and speakers are in mono

Sounds like the jack on the computer is worn, dirty or bent therefore not making good contact with the plugs. The solution is to replace the jack, which is labor intensive- mostly to get to it inside the case and then you need the part (jack) Soldering may be necessary.

Sound is working but internal speaker is not working

Connecting headphones to the system will disabled the internal speakers until the headphone jack is disconnected, at which such time the internal speakers should function again.

If you disconnect the headphones and the internal speakers are not re-activated, then there may be damaged to the microswitch in the jack. (Try rebooting after the headphones are disconnected too)

The speakers on my laptop do not have any sound. I can hear sound only when I plug in headphones. Is there a way to switch speakers? I have a Compag Presario v2000

You could have damaged the sensor in the 3.5 mm headphone jack so your computer does not realize that there are no headphones plugged in. If thats is the case you will have to have the sound card replaced. Another problem could be that the driver is messed up if you recently updated drivers roll back the sound cards driver or update it. Finally you can simply hook up old non usb speakers that use the headphone jack.

Headphone jack broken speakers wont work

Yes, since the Headphone pin is stuck in the Jack, you are not getting audio from Speakers.

You should have noticed that connecting the headphones to the Jack will block the audio coming from the Speakers and the same is the current situation.

You can either try removing the blocked part using a Tweaser or get it repaired.
