If it is a number thermostat, first check your box temp., then change the dial 1 number and check temp. in about 2-3 hours and see which direction it goes. Usually thermostats with numbers causes the temp to change very slowly so take your time and you can figure it out.
It is most likely a worn out relay tthey when it's could metal contacts in relay are not making connections I know it sounds weird but metal changes major in different temps
