hi,
a question similar to this has come previously, this model camera has a fault like this, in my experience, disconnecting the memory backup (small lithium battery) will cure this. after a five minutes reconnect the battery.if the play button is sticky jut give some cleaning spray through the buttons groove often press it.
The coolpix camera's from Nikon, don't have a removable lens, supplies don't try to remove one.
Once removed you won't be able to put it back so it will function again.
Please do not assume the battery is good. This sounds like a dead battery. Many Coolpix cameras that take AA batteries will draw power when off.
All Nikon Cameras draw power when off.
Not sure where you live, but in Europe you get 2 years of warranty on your Nikon camera, so you could go back to the store or contact a certified Nikon crevice centre. First ask them if they can tell you it your camera is still under warranty.
If you want to repair it yourself, look on ifixit.com. They will publish manuals and videos of electronic equipment, they ever did get in their hands. They also can help with tools and spare parts. But if your not technical, don't even start it. Also before buying any spare parts, ask what it will cost. Sometimes parts are more expensive then a whole new camera.
Look in what part of the menu you are. If you are in Automatic scene or effects, you only can change few things. Only when you select P,S,A,M or U, you can set lots of things in he menu. Please look in the manual, because on your camera are so many things you can set, if in the correct menu or in the right settings menu.
