The hing, or spring that supports the door when opened, snapped. As a result, the door is quite heavy and must be supported when opened and closed to prevent possible injury and/or further damage. Is this a part that can be easily replaced by a homeowner with little 'service" experience, or should I call a technician?

What is the plastic knob under the door hinge used for on kenmore model 7803 refrigerator?

Most modern fridges have these small plastic knobs [usually both top and bottom]. They are usually only COVERS for threaded mounting holes so that the fridge/freezer doors can be mounted for either left OR right opening ... ok They are generally around 1/2" [13mm] in diameter x 1/8" [3mm] in height.
They also help support the door [when it is closed] and prevent any "sagging" and/or mis-alignment or distortion of the fridge door which [these days] can be quite heavy when fully loaded.

Hi the right hand hinge of the door has popped out whilst I was trying to move the oven using the door handle as leverage. The door is now wonky when closed as the hinged has popped out. Help!

All oven door typically lift off the hinges by design. If you open the door to what is referred as the broil position. You know when the door stops about 4 to 6 inches open at the top. Then do the following.

1. Lift the door up completely off the opposite hinge still in place and remove. Set the door aside carefully as if has glass window, you do not want to break.

2. Then set both hinges at the broiler stop position. If one is all the way in to door fully closed position pull it out with your hand or with pliers till it stops @ broiler position. If all the way down as if door was fully open, lift hinge until it stops at broiler position. CAUTION- THE HINGES ARE SPRING LOADED AND CAN SNAP BACK INTO FULLY CLOSED POSITION. You can use a heavy glove or if you have an oven mitten, that can work to protect your fingers. DO NOT GET YOUR FINGERS BETWEEN HINGE AND OVEN OR CAN PINCH FINGERS.

3. Now carefully lift the door over the hinges set at the broiler position. Careful not to bump them when doing so or can snap closed. If does, reset hinge to broiler position and repeat. Works best to hold door at angle that door is when in broiler position. Once you have them started evenly, you should be able to fully slide down back onto both hinges.

4. If one of the hinges no longer has spring tension you have to reattach the spring. You can usually access spring if needed by removing the bottom drawer.

How do I remove the oven door

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Most if not all Thermador owners manuals have this outlined in them, however, here you go.

Removing the Oven Door

  • Fully open the oven door.
  • Raise the U-clip over the hook on each of the hinges to the "locked" position (see illustration below). This will prevent the hinge from snapping closed when the door is removed.
  • Grasp the door by the sides toward the back. Raise the front of the door several inches (there will be some spring resistance to overcome because of the hinge being locked). When the front of the door is high enough, you will be able to lift the hinges to clear the indents.
  • Pull the hinges out of the slots in the oven front frame.

To Replace the Oven Door

  • Grasp the sides of the door at the center and insert the ends of the hinges into the slots in the oven front frame as far as they will go (see illustration below).
  • With the door open all the way, lower the two locking clips.
  • Raise the oven door and make sure that it fits evenly with the front sides.

DOOR HINGE WARNING:

**CAUTION** With the door off, never release the levers and try to close the hinges. Without the weight of the door, the powerful springs will snap the hinges closed with great force.

Let me know how you make out or if anything is unclear. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Good Luck,

Macmarkus :)

How to increase Dacor oven door spring tension

The hinge is most likely out of adjustment as the tension should not have to be much to hold the door closed. The pivot point and the attachment to the door must be correct however.

The hinges usually have a hole exposed when you open the door to put a nail in so the hinges will be held open to work on them.

52 saccaner error

52 Scanner Error Perform the following to troubleshoot a 52 scanner error:
  1. Verify that the toner door is completely closed. If the door is not closed, the printer will not allow the laser shutter to operate and will present the error “52 Scanner Error” or “Door open or no print cartridge”.
  2. Verify that the black connecting link to the toner door hinge is properly attached. If the latch is not properly attached (Figure 1), snap the hinge in place, close the toner door, and power-cycle the unit. Figure 5: Black toner door latch c00162195.jpg
  3. Verify that the inner toner door is properly positioned. Snap the door back into place at the two inner door-locking mechanisms (Figure 2). Figure 6: Inner door locking mechanisms c00162197.jpg
  4. Verify that the door hinge and upper ring are not broken. If either are broken, the unit will need to be returned to HP or a local service provider for service using the applicable warranty, support pack, or contract option. Figure 7: Door hinge and upper ring c00162200.jpg

Neff oven door (U1661)

The door is v heavy and the hinges being right at the bottom take a lot of strain, especially when the door is in 'half open' position. Once the springs start to wear the hinges are no longer strong enough to hold the top of the door firmly closed. Our U1661 is 8 years old and we've had the hinges replaced twice under extended warranty. The second time the hinges they supplied don't hold the door in this position and it will just drop straight down if you don't support it while you open it.

Oven door closure

I had the same problem, the door will come off by opening it partially and lifting it up off the hinge brackets. Be careful, because the brackets are spring loaded and will snap shut when the door is removed. You will find a hinge pin with a spring clip at the bottom of the hinge. It's likely that the spring clip has come off of one of the hinges and the pin fell out. You can find the drawings and part number(s) on the "partsdirect" website using your model number, and even order them there.
