I've had the same problem with another Casio watch and in my case I didn't place the inner parts of the watch exactly right. This must be done very precisely, otherwise one or more button functions don't work. Maybe it is worth a try to check the alignment of the inner parts of the watch.
Your watch is solar powered, so I think it isn't charged lately. At a low charge, the watch goes into saving mode by switching off the display (while keeping the time, date, etc.). To charge the watch leave it in a brightly lit spot for a day or two. That should be enough to make the watch function as normal again.
probably one of the buttons of your watch is stuck that's why you cannot use the other buttons of your watch. it has to be opened and check for it, mostly of the button that are stucked with this kind of watch is the illuminator or the light located at the lower middle of your watch. i hope i had helped you.
This also drove me crazy. But I figured it out: 1. Hold the top left button down until "LIGHT" appears at the top; now you are in the setting more. you can turn the light function on or off by pressing either of the right hand buttons. 2. Then, just keep pressing the bottom left button to toggle through each of the settings (date, hour, minutes, etc.); and use the same right hand buttons to set them as needed. 3. When you're done, press the top left button again to complete your settings.
The Mode button on the bottom left hand side will set your "SET" buttons to work.
The first push of your Mode button will activate your Stop Watch. Press the top right button to time your subject. Press it again to stop timing your subject.
Pressing the bottom right button will reset your Stop Watch to zero.
Press the Mode button to release your Stop Watch function and return to the Telling Time function.
Press the Mode button twice and you'll be able to set your Alarm function. Your Hour number will be flashing. Press the top right button to set your Alarm Hour. If you Alarm Hour is for the afternoon or evening continue pushing until a "P" appears by your hour number . This will be your afternoon/evening hour. If there is no "P" that, of course, will be your morning hour.
Press the bottom right button to adjust the minute number of your Alarm function. Your minute number will be flashing. Again, using the top right button, you'll be able to adjust your minute number.
(If you hold any number changing button for a long time, the numbers will flash through rapidly.)
Press the mode button to release your Alarm setting function.
Press the Mode button three times to set the Time of Day on your watch. At this point you'll also need to push the bottom left button to activate your Time of Day function. after pressing the bottom right button your minute number will start flashing. Press the top right button again to adjust your minute number. Once that's done, press the mode button to release your time of day function.
For all Casio watches go to www.casio.com select "Support" then "Manuals" then "Watches".
You will then be able to enter the 4 digit number in the square box to get the manual for your watch or module inside is actually what the instructions refer to.
The problem of changing functions automatically is called "Auto Display" and can be stopped and started in Sea-Pathfinder SPF-40 (modue 2273) by pressing the bottom left button for 3 seconds.

Hi I am a watchmaker and this is a common problem that i have found a lot of times. The watch needs to be opened up and shorted out. With a pair of thweezers touch the AC & the - and this should solve your problem.
