My Maytag Neptune dryer MD 5500 is not working. The lights on the front plan will come on 1 time after I unplug the dryer from the wall, but the dryer won't turn on when I push the start button.

The start button doesn't seem to work. If I unplug the dryer and plug it back in the lights will go on the front panel. I press the button and I hear a beep. Then all the lights go off and nothing happens. Is the start button bad?

Electric dryer no start does nothing Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING. NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position. If you hear a humming sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor. Try this test out to see if u have weak windings on motor. Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter. Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released. Lastly check ut push start button for continuity with a meter when pushed in the on position, it may have gone bad.

Neptune dryer 5500 no power

This dryer has 2 thermal fuses. One next to the control stat on the blower housing and another on the heater element. You could quite possibly have a bad blower wheel or simply a lint build up cauing over heating. To get inside this dryer you remove the door first. The you can remove the front. Once that is removed you can pop the top and get the front shroud off. You cannot work from behind.

Model #MDE8057AYW I need to know how to get the lid off so I can see if I need a new belt

1.Unplug the electrical cord of the Maytag electric dryer from the electrical outlet.
2.Open the dryer door and locate the four screws on the inside, unfastening the screws with a screwdriver.
3.Pull on the corners of the top front panel, rolling the corners forward to release the clips.
4.Tip the front panel straight out and slide it up until the panel comes loose of the clips.
5.Set the front panel aside and slide the top of the dryer forward.
6.Lift the top of the Maytag electric dryer up,tilting it back and resting it against the wall.

How do i remove the back of my 5500 neptune shell?

you dont. it is serviced from the front. open the door, there are two screws on each side in the door frame, remove them (the door will stay without the screws until pulled up and out). pull the front panel toward you from both sides, then pull up out of the brackets on bottom. you can service any part in the cabinet from there. if you are removing the drum, youll see one screw on each side holding the top down, remove and top hinges up and out of the way. shane

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.
