There should be a way to select "send by email" when you finish scanning a document on the computer. Or you can usually attach the document to your email from the program you use to send emails. You may have to save the document first.
You need equipment (scanner, copier/scanner/printer, etc... to scan your document. The software will ask you where you want to store/save to a location it on your computer. Then go to your e-mail client and click on new mail. After you fill out "to: i.e. recepient e-mail address", "regarding" etc. Find the tab for "attachment", Click,on attachement tab and locate the scanned document on your PC you wish to attach with the new mail to be send to the recepient.(The attachement will take quite a while depending on the document size). Then click send!!!
Connect the scanner to the PC install the scanner software, place the Document on to the scanner and close then on your PC desktop or open My Computer right click on the scanner icon and select scan picture. Save the picture or the document, open your e-mail after typing or just how you usually send e-mail, 0n the send option bar/tap select add attachment wait to open then locate the scan doc by browsing the pop-up menu select your scan doc and click OK/ADD the doc will be added to your e-mail message now you can send it.
The printer is trying to connect to your pc to download a list of programs to send the scanned document and/or picture to when you use your scanner.
The printer will only scan to certain software and there are separate choices for handling pictures and text documents.
When it tries to communicate with your pc to find software that it can scan to, its not finding any installed that will work with your printer. Its telling you that it is unable to get the list of applications after attempting to connect with your pc.
So, what does that mean?
It means that either "bi directional support" is not enabled in your printing preference so your printer is limited to sending info one way oly (to the computer). If this is the case you can go to your control panel and then choose printers and check the preferences listed there.
OR
You don't have applications installed in your pc that your printer can send scanned documents to.
If this is the case then you need to install software that your printer will work with and then set the options on your printer to pick the default you want to use with both pictures and text documents.
Printers usually accept microsoft word, word pad, microsoft works and any other word processing software to scan text documents to.
Printers usually accept just about any picture editing software installed on your pc to send scanned pictures to.
You can avoid all of the above by checking to make sure that your printers software is 100% installed including the scanning features. Go to the Dell website and update the drivers on your printer to make sure you have the full version that is most current.
The printer will always use its own program to scan both documents and text to regardless of the other software applications you might have installed on your pc.
Please clarify a few things for me so I can help you solve this issue.
Are you trying to scan from the printer to the computer? (pushing the scan command on the printers keypad to send the signal to the computer)
OR
Are you trying to scan from the computer to the printer? (Using the scan options in your software by choosing "start" and then "programs" and opening your printers software to choose the scan option)
If your scanning from printer to computer (using the printers scan option on the keypad) and your getting an error code, chances are the problem is you have not set up your defaults in the printers menu yet. To scan from printer to computer, the printer needs to know which program you want your document to scan to in your computer. If its a text document, some people choose "Microsoft Word" and the scan fuction sends your item to that program and opens it for viewing on your computer screen.
There are different programs to use for each type of fax that need to be set up in advance in your printer to be able to scan from printer to computer. Send pictures to a photo editing software and choose the size and resolution you want as "default". Do the same for setting up text documents before you try and use this feature to eliminate the error code.
To configure your options to scan from printer to pc, push the "menu" button on your printer and use the up and down arrows on the printers keypad to move through the choices. Find the command similar to "scan options" and follow the prompts to set the defaults on handling text documents and pictures and then save your choices by pushing the "ok" button on the printers keypad.
Try scanning again with your computer turned on and open to the desktop. Push the scan button on the printer and see if it sends the image or document to your computer screen. It should warm up, then scan and show a preview on your screen for you to accept or reject. If this does not happen, please asnwer my questions as listed above and clarify what you see so I can help solve this issue right now.
