Please remember even the very best rechargeable batteries (Nimh) will only last two years or so. The older type NICaD are far worse as they develop a memory effect so you need to run them down to nearly 5% of capacity and then fully recharge each time to prevent it. NEVER run rechargeable batteries completely to ZERO available charge. Some battery systems have a fusible link (sealed cylindrical or rectangular piece) built into the wiring or mounted inside a battery compartment. If the fusible link shorts (to protect electronics) then it will have to be replaced with one of a similar type. DO NOT DEFEAT THE FUSIBLE LINK. Sure the device will work, but if there is an electrical problem somewhere, it can fry a large part of it. Motorized chairs have a number of electrical components from adjustments to the joystick. The problem you describe seems to be a fusible link issue as a blown fusible link disconnects the circuit so none of the indicator lights will operate. Just check to see where the fusible link is installed. If it is integral to the battery compartment... just order a complete new one with a new battery; otherwise, a new battery alone will not address problem. Good Luck
First off, a Permobil C500 is not a PC laptop. Next time, please put this in the correct category.
Try charging up the battery/batteries with a auto car charger. Make sure the voltage is set correctly, and charge it on slow or low, 2Amps. Leave it on there for about 4 hours and see if the chair will run and for how long. This should tell you if its the batteries or charger that's bad.
carlieo are you talking about the drive wheel on this chair? It is probably rusted on the axle shaft and will require some coaxing to remove. I use a tie rod end tool. slip it behind the wheel on the axle shaft and tap with a hammer to force the wheel off the axle. Take it carefully because you can damage the axle or gearbox. Spraying with a penetrant and letting soak then trying with the tie rod tool might help. There have been some that just won't come off and you might have to cut the tire and rim to get it off the axle. Sorry have no quick fix for this Good Luck
In my experience with Permobil Power wheelchairs over 28 years you will get the best advice by contacting the service tech at the following location for help over the phone.
