Hi, The ML has a Bus System in it, when a taillight is out it will use another to replace it, ie blinkers become reverse lights tail lights become stop lights. Check corrosion on the globe holders and the metal they contact to, If you have a trailer plug check by bypassing the trailer ECM, The other issue could be the rear SAM Signal acquisition module, if they get wet they are stuffed ($1800 from the stealership). Corrosion in the globe holders is a known issue, they make ones you can wire in directly or you can buy aftermarket LED lights off ebayHi, The ML has a Bus System in it, when a taillight is out it will use another to replace it, ie blinkers become reverse lights tail lights become stop lights. If you are not getting power from the headlight switch for that circuit, but the other side works, you'll have to trace the wiring. The socket has two wires plus a ground. One wire is for the tail lamp circuit and the other is for brake-turn signal.
I am having the same issue on a 2005 FLHRCI Road King Classic. Basically the left turn signal comes on when I start the engine. It will not cancel by pushing the left turn signal button. However, if I push the right turn signal button the left will go off and the right will start blinking. Sometimes, this same action starts all four signals blinking (like the emergency flashers). It is very erratic. I have Kuryakan pancea rear taillights and brake light. The brake light went out so I went a bought a new brake/taillight with a new adapter. Brake lights work now but the blinker problems happens whether the back lights are connected or not. Front turn signals are stock.
Yes. But do you have seperate yellow turn signal lights in the rear or do the turn signals work independant of the brake lights? If yes then you need to wire in a taillight converter. It takes your seperate left & right turn signals combines them with your brake lights on 2 wires instead of 3 leaving you with your normal 4 wires in total instead of 5. 1 Left turn & brake light. 1 Right turn & brake. 1 Taillight. 1 Ground. = 4 wires in total. If you dont have seperate rear turn signals just find left turn wire in taillight assembly, Right turn wire & Taillight & a good ground & you are done. On trailer plug yellow is left, green is right ,brown is tailight & white is ground.
Replace the turn signal switch. Bad contact inside causing a crossing of the circuits. When the turn signal is applied it should open the brake light circuit allowing for just the signal to work. Doesn't sound like the switch is doing it's job.
Hello. The symptoms you are describing are likely due to a poor ground. Temporarily install a new ground wire by securing a piece of copper wire to the frame with a self tapping screw. Use this ground wire along with the hot wire to see if each of these lights works. If it does, trace the ground wire back to the frame, unscrew it and clean up the metal with emery cloth so you reestablish a good ground.
Sounds like you 've got a cross connection in the rear right taillight bulb, or wiring to that area. Start by pulling the bulbs out and checking if it makes any difference with the bulb removed. Check the brake pedal...see if the parking lights still come on. Look at the bulb socket contacts, and the bulb contacts and look for black marks, or burned out filament in the bulb.. if everything looks good there, start tracing the wiring back and look for cuts or a place where the wiring may have been pinched, cut, bared etc. if your right turn signal isn't working and the parking lites are getting triggered, it's got to be in that right rear taillight or wiring...
No, but that's probably where your problem is. The wires get the hell beat out of them by stones, and then they short out and cause problems. I would take a look at it.
