How do i determine the meaning of one long and two short beeps on a dell inspiron 2650 laptop ?

It means your video card is not detected by the BIOS of the computer. When you first start your laptop, can you see anything at all on the screen?

I wonder if you have a keyboard issue. Most times the constant beeping means the keyboard is bad, but it doesn't normally boot or revert back to 5 or 4 beeps.

according to dell's documentation, 2 short beeps means a memory problem. try the suggested remedy in their site.

It depends on the beeping noise you hear. If it beeps short but continuouse then it is probably power problem possibly the battery. You can use a guide to the beeps to determine what exaclty is causing the probpem it might well be the hard drive is gone.

Mine did the same thing only I don't think it was even checking the hard drive and I found an entry in the DELL owners manual troubleshooting section that said if you powe rit up and the power light stays on but nothing appears on the screen, tyr removing and reinstalling BOTH memory modules and reinstalling them to insure that ey wer making contact.

Mine worked perfectly after I removed both memory modules and reinstalling them.

Be aware though that one of the modules require the removal of the keyboard to access it so it isn't really something that everyone should try on their own.

Hey, Ive had a few laptops with similiar problems. If there are no beeps then most likely there is a problem in the motherboard.

You could try removeing extra hardware like the cd/dvd drive and try to start up again but most likely the motherboard would need to be replaced.

In most cases the price comes near the price of a new laptop so it might be better to buy a new one.

You can remove your harddrive and buy a converter to connect it into your desktop pc or to your replacement laptop. to save your files.
