I have a Viking 1+ with original software using reader writer box and serial port. I have 2 machines xp & windows 98. Unable to use reader writer it won't write. Husqvarna Viking says they no longer support machine or software. Does anyone have these drivers in there computers?

    I have Hqusvarna Ebroidery Digitizing System for Microsoft Windows 95 on a Windows 98 computer Version 4.11 and also Professional Embroidery Stystem 5 Customizing Pro on a windows 98 system includes purple dongle

    There are NO drivers for this reader/writer box nor the old Viking software. you will need to change to a different software, whether Viking or Embird or Embrilliance, etc and purchase a USB Reader/Writer box (can be found on ebay fairly affordably). I know because, in addition to a Viking Diamond machine, I still have my #1+. I have the USB card reader that works great with the #1+

You may want to try getting a new reader/writer off of eBay. It's possible for them to stop working properly after a while. The drivers should be a download on your software CD. Hope this helps!

Let them know what machine you have: Designer, Rose, Ruby, Etc.
What current computer OS you are using (you said 98/XP)
Ask...

Reader/Writer for Viking Rose-Do I have to replace?
I would reccomend that you go to the dealer and think about upgrading your machine, I used to have a Rose. I upgraded and am happy I did, I think you can get the 4D with some of the new machines...if not deal for it with your new machine.

I have a windows XP computer and I am trying to get to read r/w
Being as you have xp looks like you will have to go to viking site and download a patch to make it compatable, I have a Janome and when we upgraded the computer I had to go to the janome site and download upgrade, the same would apply to the customizing software I would think.

I have a reader-writer box for a Viking Rose machine that is missing the dongle. Is there any place I could get just the dongle?
The dongle is only available with the software when you buy it. The dongle alone doesn't run the reader/writer box. The dongle is the code key for the software that allows you to send designs to the reader/writer. So purchasing new software (which also gets you the new dongle) is what you'll need to do if you want to send designs to the programmable card. Another issue you may have is that the older reader /writer box that uses a parallel port hook up, doesn't work with the new software. So if you have an old reader /writer, you'll also need a new usb reader / writer box. The new reader / writer also comes with a new programmable card.

I had the Husqvarna Viking Rose machine with the Customizing Plus software and a memory card reader/writer for use with the machine. I do not have any of the part #'s or names as I recently sold the...
Your software cannot connect through a usb port if it originally connected through a printer port. The usb option came about in later versions of husqvarna's software and there is no patch that makes it work through a usb hub. Her only option for running your old software is to have an older computer with the parallel port for the printer style cable.

Viking Rose 605 does not read anything but Win 98.
Ebay may have a laptop with win 98 but that is a pretty old OS. No way to register the software without contacting Viking to ask them to allow you to register her old software unless she sent you the reg numbers. She can't transfer ownership to you without those numbers on a certificate. Only originators of the software can allow you to do that by overriding her registration. Contact VSM and ask them if they will do this so you can use it.

Viking Rose can't install System 5 software
You may be able to find an old computer with Windows 95 or 98. Make sure that it also has a parallel port for the older R/W boxes.

You may also find that the 4D Embroidery package will do what you wish to do and it is under $400. 4D Embroidery Extra is the $700 package.

If you only want to put existing designs onto the card with no manipulation, you can get the Reader/Writer kit, $199 MSRP that includes Organizer which will allow you to load 1 design to your card at a time.

Unfortunately, System 5 was replaced by VIP which was replaced by 3D which was replaced by 4D. I don't think that system 5 will run on anything newer than Windows 98.

Parallel port reader / writer box not working with 4d software.

#1 Viking Embroidery #13 Set.
Use any card that has the On/Off in the bottom right og the card (1). You have to know what number is you design so you can push that number after selecting on/off. Make sure you programmed emb card is in the machine. You can use another card if you do not have the generic numbered card with on/off and the hoop positioning E on the right side of the numbers 1 to 35 designs.

Connecting Reader Writer Box To New Computer
After checking with the Dealer, I was told my old Reader/Writer Box & embroidery software is not compatible with Windows Vista. I will have to purchase a new R/W Box which has a USB cable & a different type of dongle.
