The audible noise is an indication that the internal Gyro has failed. There is no field fix for this problem. If the mouse is still under warranty have Gyration exchange the defective device for you.
This sounds like an internal failure on the keyboard. It should not go to sleep. By removing the battery you are effectively resetting the internal logic. If the status light is on all of the time it may think it has (or have) a key stuck and is timing out to conserve battery life. If that is not the case it is time to contact Gyration Technical Support.
Gyration will send replacement keys (free) if you contact them and supply a mailing address. Use [email protected] to make the request.
You must supply the model number or serial number of the keyboard to receive the correct color replacement.
