SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. SOURCE: Subtitle Problem: Onkyo TX-sr605

The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: Powered Or Unpowered Subwoofers For Onkyo TX-8511

Greg- Powered subs are better than non-powered subs (also known as passive subs), anyway I see the TX-8511 has no sub pre-out on the back panel, so you need to decide what sub you will use and run from the receivers left and right speakers output into a subwoofers speaker in from speakers then back out to speakers, look at the back of a subwoofer and you will see like 4 sets of speaker hookups 2 in and 2 out, what this does is takes the low end or bass and drops the signal to the subwoofer then takes the mids and highs out to your left and right speakers, unless your regular left and right stereo speakers have large woofers a sub is the way to go.

Onyko tx nr616 receiver keeps shutting off. Only stays on for approximately 3 seconds. Can you help?

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

Onkyo receiver is not starting up hdmi from receiver to tv

run an HDMI cable from TV direct to DVD or other HD source instead of going through Onkyo. If it works, you have a bad HDMI output on the Onkyo. If not you may have a bad cable or a bad port on TV. Then try a different HDMI input on TV.

Need Onkyo tx-nr616 remote code so ATT U-verse remote can control Onkyo

I used 5002 and it works for on/off only. This is better than nothing. You can try codes from other Onyko devices to see if you can get one that provides more functional control.

If I would buy a Onkyo TX-NR616 in the US (110V) and take it Europe (220V), wouldn't it be a solution to simply exchange the power transformer for a 220v one?

An stepdown transformer is needed should you buy in US and use it Europe

However, if your on a technical side , trace the primary windings , and check

There are European versions which are already 220V, no need to convert.

Wire Kenwood GE 7030 equilizer to onkyo tx sr504 receiver

The manuals explain it.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Onkyo-TX-SR504-Receivers-manual/id/365ag215/t/2/

For all practical purposes an EQ or any analog audio processor connects exactly like a Tape Deck - into any RCA pairing that has both an OUT and an IN and can be selected to be in or out of the audio path.

However, on this and just about any modern digital-capable AV Receiver, activation of any external loop that would connect a processor or tape deck would automatically DISable any digital audio sources. The effects of the processor, therefore, can only be used with analog stereo sources. It WILL affect the sound going to all speakers if you use the various Digital Sound Porcessing modes as the extra channels are derived from the stereo channels anyway.

Intermitting sound problems on Onkyo SR-705

Does it only happen when its being stressed (played really loud)? Is it hot? If so, is it well ventilated and away from other heat sources?

Somewhere in here is the answer.

"The AV receiver turns off as soon as it’s turned
on
• The amp protection circuit has been activated.
Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately.
Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources,
and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected
for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord
and set the volume to maximum. If the AV receiver
stays on, set the volume to minimum, disconnect the
power cord, and reconnect your speakers and input
sources. If the AV receiver turns off when you set the
volume to maximum, disconnect the power cord, and
contact your Onkyo dealer."

That last sentence is misleading. I don't think they actually want you to play an active signal at MAXimum as a test. I think they mean with all sources attached and an idle one selected, like CD, crank the volume knob. If the amp is not in Protection mode you should always be able to detect some hiss up close.

For another thing, if it shuts down only with speakers attached the problem could be outbound at one or more of the speakers. I would isolate that piece somewhat before throwing my hands up and calling Onkyo. Make sure that the speaker cables are not shorting. Disconnect certain speakers and try it again until you figure out which one(s) are involved. Then it could be the speakers.
