SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5310 Memory Upgrade
This laptop does not support 4GB, only up to 2GB.

The Extensa 5620z comes with 1GB of DDR2 memory. That's two sticks of 512MB. This unit technically supports 4GB; 2 x 2GB modules. However, unless you're running a 64-bit operating system (if you have to ask how you'd know, trust me... you're not) then only about 3GB will be usable. There's no fix for this, it's just a fact. All standard 32-bit operating systems are coded this way
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

did you try swapping the order of the memory sticks in the machine? for example, if you put stick 'a' in slot 1, and then put stick 'b' in slot 2, did you reverse it and put stick 'a' in slot 2 and stick 'b' in slot 1? sounds corny but i have fixed many computer memory issues in that way. also - have you verified you did not get a bad memory stick? can you boot (and will the computer recognize) stick 'a', then replace it with stick 'b'? try that and post what you find out here.

Testimonial: "Good advice. Thanks."
It is always recommend to install RAM or memory modules in pairs to fully use the bus. This will speed up performance for other applications if RAM chips are installed this way. Each memory channel must have equal amounts of RAM. If you install two equally sized DIMMs in your system, one belongs to channel A, the other belongs to channel B, and they can be accessed simultaneously.
Another reason is that 2x4 gb RAM is less expensive than buying a single 8gb RAM.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Just refer to your laptop manual. If your manual got lost go to the acer website and find your product and download the manual.http://www.acer.com.ph/ac/en/PH/content/home .
when upgrading your memory you have to consider the following:
the processor: if your processor has 4gb compatibility mem you can upgrade upto 6 to 8gb.
take note that you must not exceed to 8gb or else your processor might be damage.
get the processor speed: example core 2 i3 processor, 1.0GHZ-the frequency.
the Memory or RAM(random access memory): get ther specification: example is DDR1 or DDR3
PC133 or PC 400. Thats all.
Note: your current memory must have the same memory module(example PC400,PC 133) or else it wont work.if your going to upgrade your current 4gb PC400 you have to add 4gb memory in PC400 module also.
