I used to work in the AV support department for a large university where we maintained about a hundred projectors in-house. Here is how we approached your kind of problem:

  1. Most likely cause is high temp caused by lack of air flow, try these:
    1. Clean air filter and/or louvers, both intake and exhaust
    2. Make sure air intake and exhaust louvers are not blocked by external objects when in use - that can raise temp to point of shut-off
  2. Next most likely causes: bad fan motor or a failed sensor.
    1. Bad fan motor - fans can bog down if the bearings go bad; you may notice an unusual noise, typically a whining sound.
    2. Failed sensor There are two types: temperature and airflow.
    3. To fix either of these, or anything else, requires opening the projector.
      1. Unless you are a qualified electronic service technician (preferably with service manual and access to OEM replacement parts), this is a job for the authorized service center. Not only can you ruin the projector, you also risk fire, exploding projector lamp, and electrocution, as well as other hazards to life, limb, and property.
      2. Is the unit still under warranty? Many projectors are covered for three years. If you bought it with a credit card with free extended warranty (comes with most gold level cards), you should have an additional year through the credit card company.
  3. Unlikely, but possible causes: loose connector, bad solder joint, defective circuit component(s), etc. As above, diagnosing and repairing is a job for the service center.
Good luck! Please let me know if this was helpful in fixing the problem, or knowing when to send our for repair, or saving money. Thanks!

SOURCE: Sony VPL-DS100

I have solved this problem. Seems the rotating stand on the front bottom needed to be pushed and turned so that it inserts well inside. If it not well pushed the projector keeps shutting down itself every 10-15seconds. Took me about an hour to open the projector and doing all kinds of experiments to finally try that. :)

SOURCE: someone told me to check my filter before i change

there is no filter on this model. just open it up and blow the dust out of it. if the lamp still won't light, check to see if the colorwheel is spinning. if it doesn't spin, the lamp won't light. if the lamp side screen is clogged with dust, the lamp is shot.

SOURCE: I have a problem with

The lamp cover has a safety interlock device so the unit will not come on if the cover is missing, maybe the safety interlock is faulty or the part of the cover that engages the safety has come away. Other than that I'm not sure what the poblem would be. That is were I would start.

Good luck

Lamp/cover button blinking red, how can I solve my Sony projector?

The blinking red lamp/cover button on your Sony projector typically indicates an issue with the lamp or the projector's internal temperature. Here are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:
  1. Check the lamp cover: Make sure that the lamp cover is properly closed and secured. If the cover is not properly closed, the projector may not turn on or may turn off after a short time.
  2. Check the lamp: If the lamp cover is properly closed, the next step is to check the lamp itself. Remove the lamp and check it for any visible signs of damage, such as cracks or discoloration. If the lamp appears to be in good condition, try reseating it to ensure it is properly installed. If you have access to a replacement lamp, try installing it to see if the problem is resolved.
  3. Check the projector's air vents: Ensure that the projector's air vents are not blocked or obstructed, as this can cause the projector to overheat and shut down. Make sure that the projector is placed in a well-ventilated area.
  4. Reset the projector: Try resetting the projector by turning it off and unplugging it from the power source for several minutes. Then, plug it back in and try turning it on again.
  5. Consult the user manual: If none of the above steps solve the issue, consult the user manual for your Sony projector for further troubleshooting steps or contact Sony's customer support for further assistance.
If the issue persists, it may indicate a more serious internal problem with the projector that may require professional repair.

I have sony vpl ex7 and the power button keeps on blinking?

If it blinks with 2 flashes, it's overheated. Check the filter unit.
If it blinks with 4 flashes, a fan is not working properly. see if any fan is not turning on, and check why.
If it blinks with 6 flashes, it's a system internal failure.
