This sounds like a thermostat in the ice maker has failed. Unfortunately, LG provides no replacement parts for the ice maker. They say to just replace the assembly, so there is no alternative other than ice maker replacement. Here is the ice maker to order.
The ice maker uses a internal thermostat that starts the cycle of dropping the ice and refilling with tap water. If your water control valve works filling the ice maker then the problem is the ice maker itself that will need replaced. Unfortuantly the ice maker you have has no rebuildable parts and will need to be replace with a=> WR30X10093 Ice Maker Assembly
Whirlpool Ice Makers are about the hardest working part on your refrigerator and their average life is about five years. You can fill the tray with tap water if the ice slots are already empty and let the water freeze. If after the water freezes and the ice drops to ice bin then the water control valve.
Click Here=> 4389177 Water Inlet Valve will need replaced. You mentioned the water is filling the tray OK then my focus would be on the ice maker.
Most times it is less expensive to just replace the ice maker module. Here is a helpful video that helps explain everything about the Whirlpool Ice Maker below. If you find this solution helpful please rate my solution, Thanks Sea Breeze
OK you mentioned the ice maker had no cubes or not making cubes, try filling tray with water from tap. Let freeze and if the ice drops into ice bin the ice maker is OK. Most times the ice maker thermostat is at fault (pt. 27 in photo) if not cycling. Read OHM's between both coils and they should be very near to same reading, if not replace water control valve=> 4389177 by applying first 120VAC to see if valve opens. If water goes into ice maker this way or OHMs between the two are nearly the same your Ice Maker=>2198597 Ice Maker Assembly may need replaced. Allow it to freeze and if the cubes drop then the water control valve part Click Here=> 2188542-1 Then you have a possibility that the ice maker thermostat is at fault item number 27 in photo here=> 627985 Ice Maker Thermostat Sometimes the problem is located inside ice maker and buying new makes it more worth the cost than the cost of replacement parts. In most cases the type Ice Maker your model refrigerator uses is electronic. You can test the ice maker by filling with tap water and allow to freeze. If the ice maker does nothing and will not drop the cubes the electronic feature of ice maker has failed and will need replaced. If the ice does drop and ice maker does not refill with water then this will point to the water control valve. If you have questions please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer you. Probably the solenoid (electronic valve that opens when ice maker calls for water, located in the back of the fridge at the bottom behind the cardboard cover and is connected to the water supply line) is leaking and when the ice maker needs water the tray overflow .If this happend the solenoid has to be replaced. To be sure of this you turn off the ice maker and after a while look inside the tray and if you see water you 're sure the valve leaks. If the problem is not with the solenoid , it is with the ice maker module and to replace it will cost almost as to get a new ice maker.
Sounds as if your water valve is letting too much water in and too big of ice cubes won't let the rake strip out the ice. Look and see if the ice in the tray is up to the round arm with the fingers. If it is then the water valve needs to be replaced but you will need to get that ice outta there. Take the ice maker down by removing the 2 screws holding it above the tray. Sometimes there is one under the tray as well. Unplug the ice maker and run hot water over the tray keeping the water away from the electronic part. This will release the ice and then reinstall the ice maker.
Another possible problem is the motor module may be broken. Pull the white cover off the front of the ice maker. This will take a little elbow grease. When you access the module (You will see a white dial about as big as a half dollar) see if right in the center of that dial one of the two prongs holding that dial is broken. If you pull on it a bit and it comes off then you are sure that your module is bad. To replace it...remove the three Phillips head screws holding it on. The shut off arm will also be attached...just pull it out with a good tug. Pull the module straight out and replace the module. When replacing the module, you may need to rotate the arm in the ice maker with the fingers on it to fit in the slot in the center of the module. You should have ice within two hours.
