The "on" light on the front of my sony Vaio laptop continually flashes red when laptop is turned off

Maybe you close your monitor while it's ON sometimes Sony Vaio reacts late. Been experiencing that on my Sony Vaio also, what I do is wait for the laptop to get empty battery and then charge it then try to power it ON.

check your ram slot.check your bios setup.or reset it.remove your battery press power button 3/5mnt and connect ac power now power on.

6 blinks is indicating that the flyback has failed and will need replacement. You can get the flyback for that model at www.tvrepairworld.com

Test or change the battery charger and battery.

Have you tried resetting bios back to factory default? a long shot!

Typically that flashing light means low battery. Which makes sense, as you probably have an issue with the AC Adapter that you plug into the computer to charge it, or the DC Jack that this adapter plugs into on the laptop. Either of these things will cause your computer to not charge the battery, and if there isn't enough power it won't turn on.

Look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.
