Try and scan something again, but with the lid up just a little. I am betting that the light for the scanner is not working. Call Canon to find out if your unit is still under Warrany if that is the case. They will be help you fix it, or replace the scanner, depending on the Manufacture's warranty policy.
go to 'control panel' click 'printers and hardwares" . then yu will find "scanners and cameras" potion click it and follow the procedure of scaning.please do load the document to be scaned first.
