Hi look into device manager
Right click on my computer Select Manage
Then on left side of the management window click on device manager

now in device manager on the right, do you see your dvd drive there? Is there a ! or ? mark? unknown devices?

you have trapped it on sleep mode and there is nothing you can do for that. the only way you may be able to fix it is 2 try and unstall windows itself or even taking it to a technician that knows about the laptop more than what you do. (dont take it offence)

goto sun.com and install the Java runtime program. You will see a link to it on the first page.

Check Acer's website for a BIOS update. I've seen a LOT of laptop's screen issues been related to the power saving settings in the BIOS. Sometimes screens going black very fast and not working properly can be caused by that.

The Power Inverter could also be the problem which you wouldn't be able to repair yourself. If you purchased it at Best Buy you can take it to them and they could get that fixed for you (at a charge if there is no warranty with that).
