try opening the light cover door, some have a hinge at the back & others have a plastic plug you can pry up carefully with a small screw driver, that way you can get access to the thread take up lever.

SOURCE: Singer Confidence 7463 - needle

Have you changed the needle since you purchased it? A needle should be replaced every 4-6 hours of stitching so for each garment sewn as a rule of thumb. So try replacing the needle, cleaning and oiling the maachine as per the manual. Check needle is in the correct way, it is easy to put in backwards if you aren't familar with them, flat shank to the back and there is usually a scarf (cut away area) at the back of the needle which is where the rotary hook under the needle plate comes around to catch the upper thread during the stitch process. So if needle is in backwards this will cause stitching to fail.

So elimate the needle firstly.

If this fails and the knocking noise continues, then it could be that the timing has been knocked out. It can happen if you sew over a pin and hit it hard (or the needle strikes the foot if stitch setup is wrong for the foot being used). In this case, you'll need to take it back to the shop for the serviceman to fix.

I hope this helps.

How to adjust M5 Screw on Singer 7463

What makes you think your timing is off? What is it doing/not doing that makes you think it's off? Before you do anything ,make sure your needle is all the way up in the clamp. A needle inserted too low--even a little--can cause the same symptoms.

Needle breaking

Is the needle all the way up? Are you sure it's actually hitting the bobbin? It MAY--and quite possibly IS--inserted too low in the needle clamp. Make absolutely sure that it's all the way up. Another factor can be your foot--make sure that it's properly inserted and tight, because it's probably hitting the foot and breaking--not the bobbin. In addition, it could be hitting the needle plate. You can determine WHERE it's breaking by manually turning the hand wheel--ALWAYS towards you--several times to see the position of your needle relative to the foot and needle plate.

How do i drop the feed dog on singer 7463 confidence so i can free motion sew?

You cannot drop the Feed Dogs on a 7463 Singer. It should have come with a small black plastic shied that will slide over the Feed Dogs and clip into the two holes in the face plate to cover them completely. If you've lost that dark plastic plate, you can also tape an index card over them, or a piece of thin plastic (like template sheets) to get the job done.
