My Kenmore Elite Model (C970) oven has stopped working, but the stove top and digital clock is fine....
Heard a "poof" after the oven on for appox 10 mins. It shorted the breaker, turned the breaker back on, stove top started working but the oven would not come back on. Year of stove is 2004, stainless glass top, excellent shape, hate to get rid of it..Help, don't want to spend a fortune on repair man from Sears. Where do I start?

Model no. c970 xxxxxxx
there should be a 7 digit number after the 970 this is needed.
Now if it has a rotary knob to run the oven chances are it has shorted and needs replaced. if you are going to do this your self be sure to unplug the range because 220 volts will kill you no question.
Try and knock off the oven , leave it for about 10-20 minutes then turn it back on , if its still the same go to the manufacturer or where you bought it... Hope i helped

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.
