Re: My husband was looking at photos on holiday as he was...
Google = EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Free and it should recover most if not all lost photos? I lost several photos on some SD cards and i tried this free program and it worked perfect. There's other free programs like this one but this particular one worked fine for me. It is simple and fast, give it a try.

Lost your photos on Android phone & need to recover deleted pictures, try GT Recovery for Android - the World's 1st Data Recovery Software for Android smart phones.
It can directly recover deleted pictures, photos lost due to deleting, restoring factory settings, flashing ROM, rooting, etc., from SD cards inside Android devices. It let you preview the deleted photos before recovery. Watch the video tutorial to learn how to retrieve photos from Android phone easily with simple clicks.
Key features of Data Recovery - GT Recovery for Android:

In the settings menu you should find a back up and reset option. Or on most android devices with the unit off press and hold the volume up and power buttons. Continue to hold both until it boots to the android menu. Use the volume up and down to scroll and power to select. Select factory data wipe. If yours does not have a volume control then there should be a recessed reset button usually located on the back of the unit. Insert a paper clip and press and hold.
To do a factory data reset, follow these steps: If your phone is on, turn it off. Press and hold the Volume up button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. Press the Volume down button to select "Recovery mode."
It's unfortunate, but the only real way to correct this is to reset the phone. 1. Power off your phone. 2. Press your volume-up button, your home button and your power button till your System Recover Screen comes up. 3. Scroll down to "wipe data/factory reset"and press the home button to select this option. 4. A confirmation screen comes up. Scroll down to "YES - DELETE ALL USER" and then press the home button. 5. Select the "Reboot System Now" option next and wait for your phone to reboot
Press the play button--which features a picture of a solid triangle in the middle of a rectangle--on the backside of the camera.
Press the "menu" button to access the playback menu.
Rotate the multi-selector dial to scroll the menu cursor to the "delete" option represented by a trash can.
Scroll to the option "erase all images" and press the "OK" button on the backside of the camera.
Scroll to the "yes" option on the confirmation dialogue and press the "OK" button on the backside of the camera. If a removable SD memory card is inside the camera, the camera will delete all of the photos on the card. If there is no SD memory card, the camera will delete all photographs in the internal memory.
If you need more help concerning your Nikon COOLPIX camera, I've posted an online manual of your camera below.
You can delete photos from your SX130 IS in two ways:
To Delete Photos Individually:
Press Playback Mode button (looks like a play button and is located on the top right on the LCD-side of your camera)
The last image you took will appear on the LCD screen.
Use the Left & Right arrow keys or turn scroll wheel to cycle through your images
Once you find an image you want to delete, press the Trash button. The image will be erased.
Press the Playback Mode button or the FUNC/SET buttons to exit when done
To Delete ALL Photos
Press the MENU button (bottom right button on LCD-side of camera) to bring up the Menu screen
On the Playback tab (Looks like a Play button icon), use the arrow buttons or turn scroll wheel to scroll down to Erase. Press the FUNC/SET button.
You now have three options Select, Select Range, and All images. Select will allow you to delete individual images, Select Range will allow you to select a series of images, and All images will delete all images from memory. This last one is the option we are looking for.
Use the arrow keys or scroll wheel to choose All images
Use the arrow key or scroll wheel to select OK when the Erase confirmation screen pops up.
