The need depends on what country you live in. In the US,Canada, and Mexico there are no longer any analog TV signals Everything broadcast over the air is digital. A digital to analog converter is available so older TV's without a built in digital tuner can be used.

Do you have an Digital signal to analog signal converter box? if not you need to one, all signals are broadcast in digital now and your TV can't directly receive them without a converter box.

How can I switch from digital to analog?

If this is a CRT then you do not have a choice to get digital over analog. It is an analog TV. You can get what is called a scan converter to convert a digital signal to an analog but you will not be viewing a digital signal. To view a true digital signal you need a digital tv that has a resolution of 720P or higher. Most TVS are 1080P standardize which is the most common.

What would happen if I hooked up a analog to digital tv converter to a scanner

The scanner would not be able to decode the digital TV signal. You would hear "buzzing", which would be an aglomeration of the digital TV signal. It would be competely incoherent.

What is a converter box for tv

2_21_2013_6_27_22_pm.jpg
A digital television adapter (DTA), or digital-to-analog converter [set-top box], or commonly known as a converter box, it is a television tuner that receives a digital television (DTV) transmission, and converts the digital signal into an analog signal that can be received and displayed on an analog television set. It may refer to over-the-air broadcast television signals received by an television antenna, or to cable TV systems which switched to digital cable. It normally does not refer to satellite TV, which has always required a set-top box either to operate the big satellite dish, or to be the integrated receiver/decoder (IRD) in the case of direct-broadcast satellites (DBS).

In North America, these ATSC tuner boxes convert from ATSC to NTSC, while in most of Europe and other places such as Australia, they convert from Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) to PAL. Because the DTV transition did nothing to reduce the number of broadcast television system standards (and in fact further balkanized it), and due to varying frequency allocations and bandplans, there are many other combinations specific to other countries.

All ready used box once. Now going back to antenna. Not receiving display or menu on T.V. screen.

All TV over the air is transmitted as a digital signal now. In order to see it on an older TV (read Analog), you must have a signal that you can receive(antenna hook up) and a digital to analog converter box. That box allows you to see your digital signal on older TVs. The signal is sent from the antenna to the box via a RF connection, and decoded to channel 3 or 4 (your choice). for further information see Consumer Report at:

Now that we have changed from analog tv to digital, will my old 980b 2" tv work? How can I rig it to receive signals?

Your TV will still pick up analog stations (less than 50,000 watts) but for most stations you will need a D/A converter, not very portable.

Vhf is not picking up signal, no image

Well since all TV is now broadcast in High Definition that might be why you are no longer able to tune in a station. You will need the converter box.

Converter Box Problem

If you are receiving digital signal and channel is fuzzy, something wrong. Only Analog signal is fuzzy. With Digital it is great picture or nothing. For channel 6, check to see if they are broadcasting in digital yet. If they are not, this is why you are not getting a signal. If they are broadcasting in digital, then you need a stronger antenna.

Does my tv have a digital tuner (RCA Model E13320, 2/2001)?

The digital tuner has nothing to do with the new signal you will be receiving in February of next year. The new video signal is a digital signal. The old video signal is analog. Your television receives the analog signal and converts it to what you see on television. You need a converter box to convert the new digital signal back to an analog signal your television can convert.
