How many liters of 20% alcohol solution should be added to 40 liters of 50% alcohol solution to make 30% solution

I will assume that the percentage is per volume (20% per volume, 40 per volume.
Let x be the number of liters of the 20% solution.
What is the volume of alcohol in x-liters @20%?-----> .2x
What is the volume of alcohol in the 40 liters of solution @ 50%? Obviously 20 liters.
Amount of alcohol in the two solutions =.2x+20
After you mix the two solutions what is the resulting volume?
Resultant volume=x+40
Percentage of alcohol in final solution: 30% or 0.3
Quantity of alcohol in final solution =.3*(x+40)

When mixing the two solutions, no alcohol is lost: The amount of alcohol before mixing is equal to the volume of alcohol after mixing
(.2*x+.5*40) =.3*(x+40)
Solve this equation for x. (Show your work) You get x=36 Liters.
Check the result by replacing x in the equation.

In what proportion should 50% alcohol should be mixed with 10% alcohol to get a 30% alcohol solution

To decide the percentage of the mixture, you can use the weighted common system primarily based on the alcohol content. Let x be the quantity of 50% alcohol, and y be the quantity of a 10% alcohol solution.

We get the weighted common system as follows:
0.5x+0.1y=0.3(x+y)
Now, you can remedy this equation to discover the ratio of x and y.
I'll calculate the answer for you.
0.5x+0.1y=0.3(x+y)
Expanding and simplifying:
0.5x+0.1y=0.3x+0.3y
Combining like terms:
0.2y=0.2x
Dividing each aspect by way of 0.2:
y=x

This capability means that the 50% alcohol answer has to be combined in equal percentage with the 10% alcohol answer to get a 30% alcohol solution.

Your manual that came with my 18" chain saw

The main problem with running 10% alcohol fuel is that it runs hotter than non alcohol fuel.What I have done for the last 15 years in my stihl chain saws is runs fuel oil mix slightly on the rich side. Stihl reccommends mix to be 50 to 1 and I use about 45 to 1 and they run great. One saw I've been using for 10 years and have had no problems. I also use a additive called sea foam, available at most auto parts stores. I use about 4 ounces per gallon. As far as your warranty goes If you cannot get alcohol free gas I don't see where you have much choice if you want to use your saw Hope this helps. Thanks
