Hi madelyn evan,

Version 6 Family Tree Maker is designed to be used with Windows 95 / 98 , therefore in order to use it in Vista you must run your program using Compatinity Mode --> Install your software--> Go to your Desktop --> Right click on the program icon--> properties-->Compatibility--> select one of the versions above
I hope this helps. If so, please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly

The files can be transferred as long as you know where they are saved. As to opening them, just ensure that the version that you have is for Vista and you should be OK.

How do I transfer my Tree Maker files from my PC to my iMac.

Family Tree Maker has a Mac version of their software available on their website.
This link also provides some possible solutions for your situation for converting PC version to Mac.

If you have any reason to not switch to the Mac version of Family Tree Maker, or have other PC software that may not not be available for Mac, there is an easy solution for this as well, but does require purchasing a copy of Windows. You can install Windows as a second operating system on your Mac to support those applications not compatible with Mac. This can be done using the built in "Bootcamp" utility on your Mac. This allows you to boot to any version of Windows or Linux, as well as your Mac OS. Another method is to install "Parallels" for Mac, which also allows you to install multiple operatings systems, but with the added ability to Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously.

MY OLD COMPUTER WINDOWS XPS RUNS FTM VERSION 10 FINE. MY NEW PC HAS WINDOWS 7 WILL NOT PERMIT INSTALLATION IS THERE A WAY TO INSTALL VERSION 10 ON WINDOWS 7?

The short answer is yes, Family Tree Maker 2010 is fully compatible with Windows 7.
The Family Tree Maker team has been working with Windows 7 for several months-even prior to the release of Family Tree Maker 2010. Since the "Release to Manufacture" (RTM) version of Windows 7 was released last August, we have done additional testing in our labs as well as with alpha and beta customers with no indication of incompatibility. Family Tree Maker 2008 and 2009 are also compatible with Windows 7.
As a point of interest, it may be helpful for people to know that we continually test Family Tree Maker with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
If you find a problem while running Family Tree Maker on your operating system, the best course of action is to contact customer support which can usually help you identify and solve the problem.

I have the Installation programme for Family Tree Maker Version 11. I have just purchased a new computer with windows 7. Can FTM v11 be installed on Windows 7 and will it work O.K.?? The computer on...

Yes, it should run on Windows7, as I have done it some time ago. I have experienced a problem with the some printing options to PDF format, and I need to find a amyuni document converter to overcome this problem. Everythings else works and will not cause any problems to your existing files you have compiled

Question: Can I transfer my Family Tree Maker genealogy programme from my present PC computer to a new Mac which I wish to purchase? Thank You Mildred McLelland

mcdevito75 here, I would figure you could if it's on Disk (CD) If it is, simply un-install it on your old computer and install in your new computer. Hope this helps.
