Toshiba hddr160E03X hard drive showing full capacity at 147GB

Manufacturers rate the capacity of their hard drives in an unformatted state. When you format a hard drive the actual capacity drops approx. 10% and in this case it leaves you with 147Gb capacity.

Plugged in an adapter for my MK1032GAX Hard drive and is not being recognized by the computer. Windows 7 is installed. Trying to find driver. Need help asap!!!

Right-Click "Computer" and click "Manage"

Go to Disk Management. Right-Click on the drive that is there that matches your Hard Drive capacity (At the top part). And click on "Change Drive Letter and Path" and assign it one.

If your drive is not being recognized in that console, then you might need to check the physical connections. Otherwise, you might have a bad drive.

Please Rate.

Thanks

The reason why Windows XP installation CD cannot detect the hard drive is because your Toshiba has a SATA hard drive and the Windows installation CD does not have the SATA driver on the CD.
If you do not have the SATA driver then you can get around this problem. Please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Toshiba MK6034GAX Shows only 30gb

Linux may be on another partition and Windows cannot recognize it, otherwise the MBR could be damaged and you should conect it externally and run a disk check on the drive.

Internal Hard Disk Upgrade

Yes, there is. Match the type of drive (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA) you get with what you have. Make sure your Satellite sees the drive in the BIOS. For drives larger than 120 GB, recommend operating systems Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher) or Vista. Older OS's have a 137 GB limitation (they only see the first 137 GB of the hard drive despite its size).
