I am going to guess that you have experienced a "bird's nest" of the top thread becoming entangled under the needle plate. Gently lift the fabric just enough to see the thread and using a craft knife like an xacto blade, very carefully work at cutting the fabric free. Give the bobbin area a good cleaning. Then be sure to check and make sure the top thread is traveling through the right path before you try stitching again.

If you get it unjammed, be sure to install a new needle as the old one is probably damaged. If there are still issues, the machine's timing may be off and would need professional service.

Try unplugging machine from wall. Remove the tread and needle.
Turn hand wheel backwards, the hook probably has a piece of thread jammed in the race. If you can turn backwards look for the small piece of thread remove it. New needle and rethread plug in and try again.

Sewing machine will not manually turn - acts like something is locked.

First remove the needle, bobbin parts and check for thread jammed. Removing one peice at a time and checking if it will turn will tell you what the problem is when it unjams. If none of these things are the problem it may be in the motor linkage.
