A lot depends on your vehicle. Modern engines with functioning fuel injection systems do not build up combustion chamber deposits like the vehicles of 50 years ago; if they do there is something else happening like bad piston rings or leaking valve guide seals.
In other words, if it is a modern fuel injected engine, if need to clean out the combustion chambers, you need to take it apart and fix it correctly.
Most likely cold start problems are the result of problems with the cold start fuel enrichment system [there are many different systems depending on the vehicle].
