There is an extended warranty coverage that Onkyo is providing on receivers manufactured between 2009-12. Not sure if the TX-NR616 is included, but here is a thread from the AVS forum on the problem:

Hello, we do not provide schematics to end users only authorized service centers. I suggest taking it to a service center. Thank you, Onkyo USA

What could be a reason for "no item" while trying to listen VTUNER on my TX-NR616 Onkyo receiver?

Hello, Vtuner is going through changes in terms of the stations that they cover. Are you getting "no item" for all stations or is it just some of them? I would test by trying to go to a local station that you know works to see if this is happening across all stations. Thanks, FJD

My Onkyo TX-NR838 switches off when I turn the tv off. I can't switch the receiver back on for 2 days

sounds like a faulty cable or psu .... or some bad solders on the back of a scart socket if you use scart
if not its something to do with TV detection the TX-NR unit uses

Onyko tx nr616 receiver keeps shutting off. Only stays on for approximately 3 seconds. Can you help?

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

Onkyo tx-nr616

harder to do but you can probably still use the display on the unit.
I am unfamiliar with the onkyos but am often setting up integras which are basically onkyos.

Find the setup button on the face of the receiver. It might be called different things but basically you will call up the settings and use the arrows - enter - and return to navigate in and out of the menu options.

Integras have that will allow you to;
configure connected speakers
- sub yes-no
- center yes - no
- rear surround yes-no
- speaker size small-large

input config (mapping audio, video connections to the input names)
ex:
- "Cbl/Sat" -> HDMI 1 - 4
- "BD/DVD" -> HDMI 1 - 4

etc.

You'll get the hang of it.

OR - do you have a small TV with a composite video connection?

I carry around a portable Coby battery powered monitor that has a composite video input for these types of problems. Composite video is always active.

Good luck!

Need Onkyo tx-nr616 remote code so ATT U-verse remote can control Onkyo

I used 5002 and it works for on/off only. This is better than nothing. You can try codes from other Onyko devices to see if you can get one that provides more functional control.

If I would buy a Onkyo TX-NR616 in the US (110V) and take it Europe (220V), wouldn't it be a solution to simply exchange the power transformer for a 220v one?

An stepdown transformer is needed should you buy in US and use it Europe

However, if your on a technical side , trace the primary windings , and check

There are European versions which are already 220V, no need to convert.
