My old filter was very difficult to remove, and my new filter would not lock in. I bought a new base, but it did not solve my problem. It turns out there is a plastic toothed part on the filter that slides up and down. On the old filter that I could not remove, this device seemed to be stuck in place. There are some comments on the web about taking a tiny screwdriver to push up the toothed slider to release a stuck filter. The problem with the new filter was that this toothed slider was very loose, and slid up and down too easily. I placed a tiny piece of scotch tape on the rail on which the toothed slide slid. This made it a bit harder for the slider to go up and down. Once I did this, the filter would lock in place. Keeping my fingers crossed that I it will release when needed.
Hi- not sure if it will help but I had issues getting it out. What I found is the plastic casing (fridge) needed a little twist/push. Play with it- hold the filter in and GENTLY push/pull/twist slightly the fridge housing.
I had the same issue. Tried all of the “solutions” that I saw during my search with zero success. When I looked at the housing unit I noticed that the spring inside was not working. I replaced the housing. I am not mechanically inclined but was able to do it. A minor miracle, actually. The ULTRAWF filter clicked in with no issues. Total cost was under $20. Hope this helps someone.
I pushed mine in very slowly and gently and it finally stayed in. Should be good to go.
