Microwave oven won't rotate.

Model # AMV5164AA/AC won't rotate when cooking. Rotation is set to on and I've tried shutting it off and turning it back on but can't get it to turn.

This could be a bad turntable motor or relay...or connection..

SOURCE: Shuts itself off mid cooking cycle -- as if unplugged; then after 5 minutes or so turns itself back on as if it was just plugged in (forgetting all previous settings)

If you just put the fan blade back on, it will almost certainly fall off again.

The best bet is to slightly rough up the contact area of the shaft with sandpaper and use a little super glue to hold the blade assembly on the shaft, and let it set a few minutes before using it.

I always recommend that you use the hood vent exhaust fan when cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

SOURCE: KitchenAid Microwave Model KCMS1555 does not work

Assuming your inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan all come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you (usually $75 -90) or the labor charge to do the work(usually $75 -90 more) . See the model tag in or on the unit for the date of manufacture.

If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.

My ge micro will not stop turning

HELLO.

If by not turning mean turntable fault, the solution is given below in detail.

1 Press "Stop" to halt microwave operation.

2 Press the "Turntable" button once to turn off rotation.

3 Push the door-release button to open the microwave oven if you do not have a "Turntable" button on your control keypad.

4 Lift and remove the glass platter from the oven, then pick up the plastic track with three wheels below the platter. Set aside these parts.

5 Insert the elevated microwave cooking tray into the oven. The tray has three to four short legs that hold it above the bottom of the microwave, keeping it from interfering with the rotating bolt in the bottom center of the oven the drives the turntable. You can now place food on the elevated tray and cook normally without disrupting the drive bolt.

Thanks.

When I shut door, the light stays on and it

I would suspect that the door sensing switch (top door switch) is open inside or is disconnected. This will cause it to seem like the door is open, but it will not cook.

It may also have an intermittently bad secondary interlock switch (bottom switch). If this were the case, it would not microwave or cook in convection mode, but the turntable would fail to operate, too.

We have the applicable service manuals for this models and have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you need other parts, you can order them by the part number in the service manual from this supplier.

Oven cooks but turntable will not turn, so it cooks unevenly. How do I reset the keypad so it goes back to normal factory presets, in case I entered something that stops the turntable revolving. Is there...

The manufacturer has set the rotational plate in motion at the same time the microwave tube is energized. They work together as a team. At no time should the plate be idol, unless you remove it completely, and then only the center spindle will turn by itself. It is possible for the rotational spindle in the center of the oven to break, but that is unusual unless some sort of pressure (like stopping it when it was moving) was applied. Also, it has been reported that some individuals tend to put items with too much weight or too large for the oven to manage; thus damaging the rotator. As long as the oven still provides Microwaves to cook your food, it is still OK. Years ago, there were no rotating plates and using the energy was all it took to get the job done. For even cooking, just manually stop the oven at times and turn the food to avoid over heating in one spot.
