Most LCD TVs that are three years old or older that have the "sound but no picture issue" have experienced a failure of the LCD backlight circuit. Older units were fluorescent bulbs that used an inverter (ballast) to produce the light that shines through the LCD and allows you to see the image. These inverters fail after 3-5 years of use.

Line failures are comon on all plamsa and LCD screens.
Best way to test is connect via HDMI or PC into the TV if it still has the line it is 80% the screen.
A solid line down or across the screen is due to problems in the display itself. Unfortunately, there's no way to repair it because the bad circuitry is integrated into the display. The only cure is display replacement.
Not the solution you want, but that's how it is. (With the huge number of transistors that are part of the display, it's actually amazing there are as few failures as there are.)
The failure with this LCD might be due to a failing power supply or backlight inverter board. Since your TV is less then a year old, I would suggest to call the manufacturer to get it fix under warranty.

Sounds like you have a coincidental hardware failure. The reset button usually sets the monitor to factory default which is good in most uses. A rolling pattern on the screen is occasionally due to electronic interferrence such as a mobile phone in the vacinity. As you say your screen is fading completely suggests a hardware failure and nothing to do with your pressing the reset. If your monitor is less than 3 years old (standard screen warranty) I would contact the manufacturer and they may send you a new one.
