I switched from zig zag stitch to straight stitch and machine will not sew just kept unthreading the needle
Raise the presser foot to release the tension and then pull about 6 inches of thread through the needle and the bobbin before taking the first stitch. Also, pull the bobbin thread so it is above the fabric before beginning to stitch and gently hold the thread tails when you take the first stitch so they don't get pulled back down into the bobbin area. (This method works when doing any kind of sewing, not just for quilts or zig-zag. It will prevent those terrible birdsnests that frequently occur on the underside of the fabric.)

Try changing the needle to a new one, size 12, a dull or bent needle will cause this.
