I am not sure you can add a pause in the Prefix per se, but you can increase the Intercharacter delay which should achieve the result you want.

Download the Product Reference Guide for the GM4100 from this page: Gryphon GD4100

Here is the direct link to the 13MB PDF:
http://www.datalogic.com/tools/download.aspx?iddwnfile=1608&path=%2fupload%2fmarketlit%2fmanuals%2fgryphon%2f820050514.pdf&name=820050514

You will need to print several pages so that you can scan the appropriate codes to change the scanner setup. Follow the instructions on the following pages:

Pages 47 and 292 describes the Intercharacter Delay.
Pages 351 and 352 in Appendix D give you the number scans you will also need.

You might start with a 10ms delay and increase this until it works. A little experimentation will surely solve your problem.

Download the quick start guide from support.symbol.com and reset to default by scanning the code from the PDF manual. This could either be a programmed ASCII prefix, or an error in the codes you are scanning. Have you seen the same problem with more than one scanner?

What would I put under the suffix and prefix when bar coding? My scanner is Symbole LS 2208

Hello Norma, you can use the suffix or prefix to send characters, which are not included in the barcodes tgehter with the scanned barcode data.
If you dont need any character before or after the data, you can leave it blank.
It is usually used to add an Enter or Tab to switch to the next line, while scanning to some application like excel.
