first try the washer on cold only, then hot only,if one is slow and the other is not replace the valve, you must remove the 2 head screws one on each side(you might have to pop the plastic covers on each side to get to the screws, after removeing the screws flip up the head, you will see 2 spring clips one on each side, take a screw driver and pop them out, unplug the wire jack on the middle of the washer(that is the lid switch jack, now you can pull the back out just enough to get to the valve, the valve has 1 or 2 screws holding it on,you remove then on the outside, there are 4 wires on the inside to remove plus the fill hose, you can get a valve from your local appliance part store for around$10,or one on line at sears.com-parts,or repair clinic .com,the model number for your washer is inside the washer lid,let me know how you do-mike

If the switch DOES require replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, repairclinic.com or appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All three sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all three for the best price. If you still need assistance, please contact me and let me know. If my diagnosis is not correct, please post back and elaborate a bit more so I can assist you further. If your washer is not configured this way, or if you still have questions, please let me know.

You will have to have an electrical test done. If it's not filling, that means there's no current getting to the fill valve. Have a qualified technician do an electrical test. But also, have him test the timer, too!

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110-25864400
and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
See the section for the basket and tub assembly's
I'd pull the cabinet in order to get to the hoses going to and from the pump first.
See the following:

If the hoses are fine, I'd also check the gaskets at the bottom of the tub.
If you're reasonably mechanically inclined, these are easy fixes.
If you have to get to the gaskets at the bottom of the tub, see the following for how to remove the agitators, pump, motor, transmission, spin tube and basket.
(It sounds a bit complicated but it's not really that difficult.)

You don't have to buy a special spanner wrench to remove the spanner nut. I've used a short 10" pipe wrench hooked over one of the tabs on the spanner nut, tap the handle with a hammer and it should loosen.
Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer. Use a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap up on the wood.
As an aside, see the following Whirlpool Service Manual for top load direct drive washers.

Depending on the problem (hoses or gasket) it's certainly less expensive than calling in a repair person.

It's quite possible. First see the Sears parts list for your washer with diagrams of all major parts.
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=+110.28812790&pathTaken=partSearch
Then see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for these washers and check the troubleshooting section.
