What to use roku stick on my samsung mod hl61a650 tv what do I need other than the stick?
Yes you can the streaming stick uses HDMI and usb for power.
1. Your TV does not have WiFi built in and it is not even WiFi ready, i.e. it is not a "smart" TV.
2. The USB port on the back of the TV is only for connecting flash drives (so you can view photos and play music and videos), not a Roku stick. The TV will not recognize devices that are more "intelligent" than a flash drive.

Whoever answered this has no idea what they are talking about....
THE ROKU STREAMING STICK OLUGS INTO ANY HDMI PORT AND IT IS POWERED BY USB, it comes with a wall usb power supply or you can plug the usb directly into your tv's USB port for power.
If you power it via the port in the tv the boot time is slower because it turns off when the tv is turned off. If you power it via wall outlet it will remain in sleep mode when not in use therefore it will not have much of a boot time.
