How do I change pulse to tone dialing?

I have been using the phone on tone dialing all these years but suddenly it changed to pulse dialing. There is no button to slide from pulse to tone dialing on the phone nor is there anything on the software side. The phone is connected to a HP Officejet J4660 for scanning, faxing etc.

Are you sure about the phone model number?
Tone/pulse is set in the common equipment (KSU) configuration, not the individual set.
Press Feature 9*80 to see the system software version.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the reply. Although I could see the display as it is spoiled, by pressing 9*80, I could hear the phone pulse sound two times followed by tone sound. The problem is solved, my phone reverts back to tone dialing (??). Incidentally the phone model number is correct, and it is ENZER, ET8322ID OR ET83221D (not sure whether it is I or 1). Thanks anyway, it solves my problem."

SOURCE: HP officejet all-in-one...keeps saying phone is

The very first thing to check with a fax machine is that the line itself is OK. The possibilities are much greater that there is a problem with the LINE and not the HP itself.
Hook up a regular telephone to the fax line, disconnecting anything else that may be on the line. If the telephone doesn't have a dial tone, call the phone company. If you DO have a dial tone, then maker sure that the phone line is connected to the correct port on the HP. There are two, usually. One is for the LINE and the other is for an EXTENSION (a phone that is daisy chained off the fax machine). If you have the LINE connected to the EXT port, it may give you this error.
If you have multiple items connected to the same phone line, try removing all of them but one regular phone, and see if you have a dial tone. If so, add the other items back, checking for a dial tone after each one. If one of them causes a lack of dial tone, replace or repair it.

The phone company may tell you that the problem lies in your inside wiring. I have seen that before. You can take your phone out to the telephone service box on the outside of the building. These usually have regular phone jacks in them. Disconnect the jack wire that runs into your house, and connect the regular telephone into the box itself. If you have a dial tone, then there is indeed a problem with the wiring in your building.

SOURCE: Fax machine not sending documents

A) Run the fax test on the printer itself to see if it's connected properly and has an active phone line.. HP All-in-one printers still make a dial tone sound even if they aren't connected to a phone line. To run the test 1)..Press the SETUP button. Press the down arrow button until "Tools" is highlighted then pres OK. 2) Press down arrow key again and select "Run Fax test" The printer will then print out the results. It will tell you if anything fails. If it does, the correct the problem it mentions. IF everything passes, then the problem is likely your cable phone line which is a "Digital" and Fax machines still use an analog signal. Here is what you can try to overcome the deficiencies in a cable phone system. 1) Set your fax speed to Medium 2) Turn your ECM (Error correction mode) OFF
To set your fax speed, Press the SETUP button again.. Press your down arrow again until you find "Advanced Fax Settings" and the press OK.. arrow down until you find "Fax Speed" and hit OK. Then choose Medium (14,400) and press OK This will take you to your previous menu (Advanced Fax setings).. Find "ECM Choose OK again.. Then choose OFF and press OK. Press the X button on your printer's control panel and then Retry your fax.. Hope this helps

Will not dial out on pulse on one line, works on second line

try changing phone to tone dialing . one phone line has been setup for Decadic dialing and the other line may be setup for tone dialing.
If tone dialing is working on one line but not the other then get phone company to change the dialing type on the phone line.
Dual tone multi frequency is the technical name for tone dialing and is more efficient than decadic dialing or pulse dialing.

Both phones have no dial tone and don't work - could it be because they don't support digital?

Hi, Welcome to FixYa.

The cordless phones supports pulse dialing than tone now a days.
If your provider supports pulse dialing & tone you can just change the tone to pulse to use cordless phone. Otherwise you have to request for pulse dialing from your provider.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K

Can't change to pulse dialing

The Vetech phone will only support tone dialing. It does have a menu option that turns tone on or off but it still will not allow pulse dialing. I had to change the phone service from pulse dialing to tone dialing to get the phones to work. As it turned out, the phone company no longer charges extra for the tone service.
