You have an in cluster factory engine tachometer (RPM)?
the tacho is meter in the cluster and does not use speedo parts or its cable.
its just a meter that needs power, ground and spark tacho signals
if all 3 are good, the meter is bad. period.
the tacho signal goes to the ignition coil minus lug, and will good, as engine runs. so... wires bad, to tacho or tacho bad.
ever price a new one? or even used? $100 used?
you willing to pay that much for just a factory tacho?

there is NO speedo cable. this old 93 is electronic, (rare on most 93 cars made, toy is advanced)
here is the proof, amazing how books dont lie....
there is a speed sensor.
the tacho and speedo use the same power and ground
leaving just one wire,r-g red-green RPM sig. pin 5 of cluster
an is SPARK primary sig. so if only tacho is dead.
then the tacho is bad, or that pin 5 wire is dead.
got you to just 2 possibles.

Remove the speedo cable from behind the cluster and from the gearbox. Its quick and easy. Replace it with a new one. If the problem is not fixed. Know you have a worn out cluster. Replace the whole cluster then.

Testimonial: "There's no speedometer cable on it, that's why im wondering if how am i going to fix it."

2004 ford ranger, 122k, tach reads 6000 at idle, reads 7000 at 30mph. sometimes reading is ok

It's possible that the 2004 Ford Ranger's engine or the tachometer itself is to blame for the difficulty you're describing with the tachometer reading. A crankshaft position sensor issue is one typical reason for a tachometer to read high. To determine the engine's RPM, this sensor transmits signals to the engine control module (ECM). The tachometer may show a reading higher than the real RPM if the sensor is broken.
There are several possible causes for this issue, including a problem with the tachometer itself, a problem with the sensor that sends information to the tachometer, or a problem with the vehicle's electrical system. It is also possible that the tachometer cable is loose, damaged, or disconnected.
It's recommendable to take your truck to a professional mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem. In some cases, the problem might be fixable by replacing the sensor or cable, but in other cases, it may require more extensive repairs or replacement of the tachometer itself.
It's also important to note that even though the tachometer is not working properly, it does not affect the performance of the engine, but it will give you a wrong idea of the RPM, which could lead you to over-rev the engine and cause damage.

The tachometer on my 06 f-350 is out of adjustment any ideas on cause and how to fix?

Its either the tach censer or the wire that its connected with. Sometimes the connection on the back of the tach gets coroded, try cleaning that first, then check the wires on the back of the tach. If all is well you might need a tach censer.

Car: Nissan Maxima SE 1997 tachometer broken

the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First, check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts, not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.
