Hi, I do a lot with these bikes, I think if you are getting a weak spark there is a couple things to check. First, do you understand how it builds the power to create the spark? The magnet in the flywheel has to be very close to the magnito or coil, if the gap is too much it will cause a weak spark, if the magnet is weak, weak spark, if the coil is shorting internally, weak spark. If the plug wire is damaged, weak spark. I hope this helps you.

My 2002 Yamaha Road Star Midnight has no spark

I have 2002 road star midnight. I lost completely spark on all 4 spark plugs. Before bike was running OK but sometimes on low RPM while idling would skip a firing on a at least one cylinder making spufff like sound. I put new spark plugs, and wiggled a little coil wires. Bike with new spurk plugs would not fire up at all. Checked for spark on all 4 spark plugs - no spark., not even an electrical I lost completely spark on all 4 spark plugs. Before bike was running OK but sometimes on low RPM while idling would skip a firing on a at least one cylinder making spufff like sound. I put new spark plugs, and wiggled a little coil wires. Bike with new spark plugs would not fire up at all. Checked for spark on all 4 spark plugs - no spark., not even an electrical charge going to spark plug. Went back to coils. Each coil (there 2 of them) has 2 spark plug wires and 2 ignition timing signal wires connected to them. I realized that these ignition timing wires contacts are corroded to the point they would not conduct a charge from the distributor to coil. CLEAN ALL THE TIMING WIRES Contacts on the coils. I did that and bike fired up right away and started running much better without sputtering or skipping a cylinder firing. SO DISCONNECT ALL THE COIL WIRES AND BRUSH THE CONTACTS WITH A SMALL METAL WIRE BRUSH.

HOW TO REPLACE IGNITION COIL

Instructions
    • 1 Make sure the engine is completely cool. Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
    • 2 Remove any components that block access to the ignition coils in your vehicle. This can vary depending on the model, and there might not be any parts you need to remove. These parts can include the air duct intake, connections to the power steering pump fuel injector, harness connector, camshaft sensor, and engine wiring harness.
    • 3 Unplug the electrical connector to the ignition coil. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the coil, grasping the wire at the boot to disconnect it. Use a plug wire removal tool, if possible, and mark down each wire to remember which coil it connects to.
    • 4 Remove the mounting bolts to the ignition coil; a flare-nut wrench will help prevent stripping the bolts' edges. Remove the coil from its valve cover.
    • 5 Inspect the condition of the spark plug wire boot. Replace the wire if the boot is torn, cracked or deteriorated in any way. Coat the boot's interior with a silicone dielectric compound before reconnecting it.
    • 6 Insert the replacement ignition coil into the valve cover. Tighten the mounting bolts to the correct torque for your vehicle. It is usually small enough to be measured in inch pounds.
    • 7 Reconnect the spark plug wire and the electrical connector to the coil. Replace all parts that were removed or unplugged to reach the coils and connect the negative battery cable.

How do you fix an Igniter Circuit Malfunction - No. 1. (P1300) on a 2001 Toyota echo?

The problem 95% of the time is an ignition coil, if you do not have special equipment, your only tool is common sense, disconnect plugs from spark plugs, remove spark plugs, now insert the plugs in the wires and set them together touching metal ground them,
Ask somebody to crank vehicle one of those wires or 2 of them if the coil is bad wont fire or the spark will be weak and orange, blue is ok. Follow the no spark or weak spark to the coil, now swap coils , repeat the same procedure if the problem follow the coil to the wires that were ok before the problem is the coil if the problem is still in the same position the problem is harness wires or computer.

My coil that control spark plug 1&2 is not firing, the coils are new. I heard that might be the engine harness, but do I need realy need to get a hole new harness for one coil? Please help its a $1,700...

I would try the spark plug wires themselves before anything else, I doubt very much that you need a harness, that is very, very rare. If the plug wires don't do anything, I would find a computer and borrow it to see if it does anything. Check out the plugs too while you are at it. Hope this helps.

I have a KZ 1100 that lost spark on number 2 and 3

Try to change coil from one side to the other, if the spark goes to 2 & 3 but not 1 & 4 you need the coil replaced or find the power loss (blown fuse) .I have not worked on that bike so am not sure. also color code on wires in the harness will be enough to follow wires without the book,no need to cut them open just note the colors at the point you are trying to check, follow along the way untill that color comes to a conector. or to the fuse buss or device.A multi meter can check condition between points Hope that will help you good luck .Joe

I need the firing order for a 1996 suzuki rf street bike

The spark plugs on this bike fire # 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 at the same time. Number 1 fires first so there is no worry on plug wires if that's your concern. There is only 2 coils and 2 plug wires coming out of each. Make sure you connect the wires from the # 1 coil to # 3 and the other coil is # 2 and # 4.
Let me know if you need any other specific information.

RSelvy
