I can not sign in to yahoo messenger while using messenger software but can log into yahoo mail and other yahoo services.
I can sign into yahoo chat services using other softwares like trillian messenger but not using yahoo. I tried everything your help forum suggest including disabling my antivirus and firewall but still cant get along.
I am using windows XP Sp3, my default browser is Mozilla Firefox, Using MTS Wi-Fi Dongle for internet Access. I accessed the messenger using this same software & hardware equipments a few days earlier but it suddenly stopped working for last 2 or 3 days. I tried downloading the messenger again but this time the downloader is not working either and asking me to check my internet connection.
My internet connection is fine and can access everything else including every other yahoo services and the secure log-in page at https://login.yahoo.com . Can log in there too.
Here is what I get when I use messenger's trouble shoot option.

I also tried restoring my system to an earlier date, using other login in windows system. But nothing works. Please help

You can create a new account in Yahoo Messenger by creating a new Yahoo Mail Account.
If you have existing Yahoo Messenger program in your PC, sign in using your new Yahoo Mail Account ID and Password.
You can sign up to Yahoo Messenger using your Yahoo email address and your Yahoo mail password. You can also check your email for confirmation with your yahoo messenger account.
Once installed, double click to run.. Sign in using your Yahoo mail user id and password. You can also check your email for confirmation with your yahoo messenger account.
When you a have an account with yahoo mail automatically you are sign to yahoo messenger. So you need a yahoo ID before you can enter yahoo messenger and you have you have yahoo id you will log in with your yahoo id and password. to enter yahoo messenger.
You can click on yahoo messenger icon and enter you id and password and then click sign in.
But if don't have the yahoo messenger icon, just go to yahoo and click on yahoo messenger and enter your id and password to sign in.

Hi, we now have several locations that are capable of accessing the Yahoo Instant Messaging feature. Yahoo Messenger itself, plus Yahoo Web Messenger, Yahoo All New Mail, My Yahoo, your Mobile phone, plus any other computer.etc etc. Yahoo classifies all these programs as different 'locations or devices' Yahoo currently do not allow you to have 2 open and active at the same time. If you have one open, and then move to another, one will close and you get a message telling you that you have been signed out. You CAN have Messenger and Mail open together as long as your status is set to "offline" in MAIL by using the drop-box next to your name and selecting 'Sign out of chat'. ( your chat contacts will remove themselves from the inbox until you make yourself 'available' again.) Please note: You may think you are signed out of Messenger when this is not the case. Hitting the 'X' when you close the Messenger page does not sign you out of Messenger it only closes that page - you have to Exit Messenger by right clicking the icon in the system tray.and selecting 'Exit' I suggest you make this setting. > (left click) Messenger > Preferences > General - check box "sign out of Messenger when I close the main window" > Apply > OK. If the above does not apply and you suspect your account is being used by a hacker. When you get signed out, close all your Yahoo programs and type your name into this software. Hit "GO" and hopefully it will show you as "offline". If not, contact Yahoo customer services
Thats happens for exactly two reasons 1. (the most common) when u are Online on Yahoo Messenger and you are checking your email in a browser. 2. Someone else uses your id and password to log on to your account.
If that happens try to change your YM password, and be very carefull where u are using the account. Never check the box "Remember my id and password ", do not log on on unsecure/unknown PC. ( some hacking software may be installed on unknown/unsecure PC like keylogger who hunts for any accounts logged on the victim PC)
I have had the same problem as you in nthe past and this is what I did to fix it. Install the latest version of Yahoo Messenger and try again. If that fails, install a third party instant messenger such as Trillian http://www.trillian.im/download/ and log into your yahoo account using that. Once you have done that then try again to log in using normal yahoo messenger.
It seems to be issue with your internet connection. Unstable connections will disconnect th messenger frequently. Observe the same with any other messenger software like gtalk.

When you sign into Yahoo Mail first, the new mail automatically signs you into yahoo messenger thru mail, so your best bet is to sign into Yahoo Messenger first, then when and if it says you have mail, click on the envelope to go to your email. It does the same thing for me but when I sign into messenger first then go to my email, I stay signed into messenger. Hope that helps you.
