You can change input using inputs button on remote or the TV button to bring it back to the correct live TV source. Here is your manual: Hitachi 51F59 Operating Manual

Go to the front panel of the panel. Manually turn the TV OFF. Via the Front Panel push the INPUT Button in & Hold. Now use the power button on the front of the TV & turn ON the TV.

If done correctly, this will bring-up the TV's Service Menu. In the Service Menu you'll see an OPTION for Factory Reset.
This procedure cannot be done with the remote-it can only be done on the actual device.

Back-light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Replacing the front glass entails completely disassembling the entire TV. Your best bet is to look for a broken TV with a good front glass.

Even you find it the shipping won't be cheap. They do make universal stands for LCD/PLASMA TVs. You may want to see at Walmart or a similar store if they carry the universal stand.
About a year ago a customer brought a 55" Panasonic plasma TV to our shop, and we asked him to bring the TV with the stand he found out his wife, trashed it and he made a nice stand out of pieces of wood. If you keep looking on ebay you may be able to it.

The screen needs replacing if cracked. It is usually cheaper to buy a new TV than get it repaired.

Anyone have issues with the HDMI input on this TV no longer functioning?

First of all if the "technician" said the LCD panel possibly but this is a plasma then BOOT that tech, he/she doesn't know what they are doing. You probably have a bad logic board as I have seen with a few Hitachis. This is obvious to a TV tech because the logic boards on Hitachis have LED's on them to indicate their condition. I would get a second opinion on this repair. Avoid the person who thinks its the LCD panel when it's a plasma TV.
