There is little info on your problem but I think you mean the screen went black while downloading a film. Normally computer monitors turn themselves off (dormant) to save energy and the life of the monitor's screen if not used for 10 or 30 minutes, depending on the settings, but the download just keeps going. Mine is set to 10 minutes. All you have to do is disturb the Mouse and see if the monitor screen switches itself on. There is another power saving option, and that is the Computer itself. If the computer is not used for one hour, it too goes dormant, but can also be set to switch itself completely off after the download is completed. However, if a computer is left on for over an hour, it can switch itself off to save energy and the computer's own wear and tear. It all depends on the computer hardware and the settings. If it is hardware controlled, then it may or may not switch itself off but it still goes dormant. Or it can be set to whatever you wish it to do, stay on all the time, go dormant after a set time or switch off if there is no prolonged activity.
you may find you have the screen resolution set to high, try changing to 1024x768 and try again. if this works it means your monitor ain't up to the job of your better machines.
this only happens when computer is on standby or there is no activity by a human like movement of mouse. it is a built-in energy saving formula on all such monitors
Check with your Power Plan or screen saver option, you might have it adjusted to super energy saving to make your battery last longer and have the screen dim, or backlight shut off since you mention it take 1-2 min to boot up ...see if that might help.... If that didn't do the job, I suspect your backlit lighting might be going bad. Let me know what Operating system you are using too. So like I said, check your screen save and if it is set to dim, or shurt off withing a minute or two... set it to something longer to see if that works.
1 check your power settings on your computer - your computer may go to standby after so many min of inactiveness.
2. check you monitor hardware setting (refer to your monitor manual) it might have built in energy save mode.
Tom Tom can do lots to things but they are not all shown on the Main Menu Screen initially. This is done to save space on the screen. If you are able to get to the Main Menu, Tap the change preferences Icon. You should then see an option called "show all menu items" On this menu, you should find all the options available including one called "Turn Off Map Display" Tap this choice....You should then be able to select what you want your map display to do.
