Laptop LCD comes on at system startup and goes off

Dell 1150 LCD powers on at system startup briefly and then powers off, the screen is not totally black. I can connect an external monitor and use it but this defeats the purpose of the laptop. Any idea's?

Thank you for your assistance in advance!

Regards,

James

Sounds like you have the Laptop in Presentation Mode. If you look along the top of the numbers you may see some extra icons, maybe in a dark blue. One of these may look like a screen. If you press the Fn key (bottom left) and tap this "Screen Key" you should cycle through the various modes (LCD/LCD+ External/External Only)

Depending on the model, you may have dedicated hardware buttons instead.

Se198wfpf lcd does not stay on screen briefly

It could be the high-voltage inverter board, I case of a faulty backlight (one of the tube flickers) the board would protect itself by powering off. Try changing one of the CCFL tube.

Dell Inspiron 1501

If the laptop keeps working, and you can use it on an external screen, then it is likely an hardware fault.

First perform a complete system recovery, like probably already instructed by the Dell support helpdesk. This will practically exclude the possibility of a driver or system problem.

If the problem is hardware , then you may have a faulty inverter board , a bad LCD display/LCD ribbon connection, or a faulty video adapter (integrated with motherboard).

If the problem is the inverter, then the screen will go dark, and the laptop will keep working on external display. This is probably your case.

If the problem is LCD display or ribbon cable, then the display will be blank with light on , and the laptop will keep working on external monitor.

Fault concerning video adapter usually cause the the system not to work at all, and it is uncommon under conditions described.

Not a typical backlight issue

Hi!

You can check the brightness with AC in the BIOS and match it with running in battery or else, when you plug the ac adapter, the lcd goes dim, press and hold the FN buttong and tap the up arrow then reboot and try to see if it will still do it. But still the best way to do it is going to the BIOS by pressing F2 at the Dell logo startup.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Inspiron 1150 Slow startup, slow printing, unable to run 2 programs at once

What Operating System do you run? If it is Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition or professional), here are some things you can do to speed up your system. 1st you should remove all programs that are not required from the start menu. Start > Run > Msconfig > startup tab. Unselect all that are not necessary. Also Right click on my computer > properties > Advanced > Performance settings > Adjust for best performance. This should speed things up a little. I would recommend atleast 512 MB of memory to run Windows XP and its applications decently. You should consider an upgrade.
