I bypassed the mainboard to see if the backlights worked i unpluged it pluged it back in now tv turns on then off
Hi travis,
you din't mention what happened after you disconnected the main board. unplug and plug is not bypassing.to bypass the main board you have to keep it disconnected.if the back lights come on and stay on after main board disconnected, the main board is defective.
good luck.
Testimonial: "the tv only powers on with the inverter unpluged"
Do you see back lights for fraction of a second with inverter connected..
In that case most probably it is the inverter. Good luck again.
no I don't when I use my multimeter it read 0 on everything transistors resistors capacitors voltage fuses that all read 0 inverter board
ok when i bypass the main board to the inverter board the backlights lit up after disconnecting to bypass and hooking it back up the original way to the main board the TV now turns on then off on then off when I disconnect the inverter board it turns on and stays on the inverter board that I bought is from Amazon although it does not have the same model number as the original one and it does not look like the original one although all the connectors are in the same place and it says its for my TV new inverter board work
this is the inverter board that I got to replace RASG7.820.1717/ROH Manufacturer: Sharp Part: Backlight Inverter Board Part #: IM3860 PCB#: RDENC2556TPZZ Compatibility: PROSCAN 32LB30Q VIEWSONIC N3235W-2M VIEWSONIC VS11770-2M do you think it will work
Hi Travis, many a times the inverter boards are interchangible. Pl check the connectors and fit it. Hopefully it will work. Good luck.
One more thing, Pl check you get 24 or 12 volts DC, inverter on command and brightness control command on inverter connector.
24V /12V come from power supply and inverter on and brightness control come from main board.
Hi Travis, What happened to your tv. Were you able to repair it?
I'm waiting for my inverter board I got sent the wrong one it should be here in a few days
I will be happy to know the result of your efforts.

Hi
Thanks for
using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might have a backlight and/or an inverter
board issue with this TV set. It could also be due to the inverter
circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source
for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is
then you have to change the entire inverter board. All this is only recommended
if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the
TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off.
The cost to change the inverter board including labor would be around $250, if
you get this done by a professional. Please revert back for more help.

In your case either the inverter or the back lights seem to be having problem.
